Can you please add that after you flashed the recovery you have to flash no-verity-opt-encrypt in twrp or else the phone won't boot? I couldn't find anything in your post nor in the comments.

you shouldn't need to do so unless you write something in the /system partition. It's a known MIUI "feature/bug/however you want to call it"
You don't need flash dm-varity desabler as far as you are not using stork rom. But if you want to use twrp and stock rom together, then you will have to flash the zip for sure.Hi, I have just unlocked my mi max 2 (chinese model) bootloader and used the mi flash tool to flash the global rom onto the mi max 2 using fastboot method. In order to get twrp on my mi max 2, do I still need to flash dm-verity disabler after flashing twrp? I have read in some places that say I do and some say I don't. I am very confused about what I should do now

That's because magisk has dm-varity built-inI use stock ROM global miui 9 with twrp and magisk
I never flashed dm-varity
It's working fine
It's automatically flashed when you flashed mgisk zip file.
This is the stock TWRP recovery without modifications.
It's ported from the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 to our device. It doesn't have any changes apart from the necessary to make it work in the MI MAX 2.
Contrary to the one made by xuefer (the one I used until I compiled my own), this one doesn't ask you for the language every time you start it up, just like an official version of TWRP.
If you have any questions, leave them in a comment. Thanks!

I need help:
I already have the bootloader open, drivers installed and usb debugging enabled.
Fastboot devices: I recognize it
Fastboot flash recovery.img: ok in less than a second
Restart in recovery mode and I get the recovery of Miui.
Any idea what's going on?
