Not sure what you are asking about. What money, what update?

There have not been any recent Motorola updates for this phone (last for the XT1225 was a security update almost a year ago), and none cost money. They are free from Motorola Many have been posted online by devs.

See here, thanks to @bhb27:

If you want to reinstall a full image file -- not just OTA -- of the very latest firmware update, not all country/carrier variants have been posted online for all XT1225. But Brazil variant is, and with unlocked bootloader you can flash that on any XT1225.

Bootloader Unlock is free for the XT1225 and XT1250, through a code given from Motorola. IF you unlock your bootloader, you can flash a Nougat custom ROM which will be updated newer than any stock Motorola firmware.

As I say in the OP, if you want bootloader unlock for the Droid Turbo XT1254, you need to go here. The bootloader unlock instructions in post #1 of this thread is for Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo. But other stuff in this thread is for all Quarks -- boot logo, boot animation, modded Moto camera...

Since @data365 stopped porting the Moto cameras for older phones, I haven't posted any new versions recently. However, here's a newer version of the Moto Camera that works for our Quarks. I have not tried it, but @FlavioV has... Thanks to @Steph310 for finding this and writing notes.

If you don't like it, then try one of the slightly older versions in this thread below. It will still be newer than what Motorola has given us.

Chaz,

I got as far a step 16. After that the selection menu looked nothing like what the phone did beforehand. The SuperSU.zip file that was safely in the downloads file prior to installing TWRP is nowhere to be found. I can only see TWRP install files. Any suggestions ?

Regards

Section 3: GAINING ROOT ACCESS

16. Select Install from the TWRP main menu.

17. Navigate to the location where you saved the SuperSu file that you downloaded in step 2, and select it.

18. Swipe the bar at the bottom of the screen to flash this zip file.

19. When it finishes, select Reboot System to boot your phone normally.

In TWRP, when you click on install, look down to the lower right and there's tabs for types of files. "Image" is for newer versions of TWRP. That sounds like what you have chosen. Choose the OTHER category. (Whatever it's called. Maybe zip? I'll edit this post when I get home to provide more information, but that should get you started.) You need to change the category of files TWRP is looking for. When you change the category, you'll see the SuperSu zip file.

Chazz,
I re downloaded the SuperSu.zip to the phone and re-flashed the image. This time my menu choices were appropriate showing download file folder with the SuperSu.zip inside. I was able to install it and now have #SU on my phone.
All good, except the TWRP while present in boot menu, isn't evident any where else. Phone appearance and functionality, same crappy Android stock mess. Good, through all the annoying new phone type get to know, explore features still present and dominant. I've again re-flashed and then re booted via the TWRP menu both, recovery and system choices but naught changes.
Anyway some progress for first day, but looking at getting a real custom working ROM.
Cheers.
btw, this is the same exact device as the XT1254 like you have posted, only available for Spanish speaking markets outside of USA. The guide and packaging in Spanish language

Interesting as I didn't know Motorola officially sold he XT1250 outside the U.S. We called it the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, to differentiate it from the "international" Moto Maxx XT1225 -- which LAUNCHED in Latin America. The XT1250 was designated for regional U.S. carriers who use CDMA/LTE and often roaming partners for Verizon. These are not MNVOs, they are standalone carriers with their own spectrum and towers, mostly located in very rural parts of America: Appalachian mountains of Kentucky, Alaska, parts of Wisconsin, Texas, etc. The big 4 carriers don't spend the money to go service those areas, so people in those parts rely on smaller local carriers who are often co-ops.

As Latin American countries don't really use CDMA, they only reason I can surmise the XT1250 was ever sold there is it could be marketed as the "cheaper" version of the XT1225. The XT1225 ONLY came in 64GB internal storage, while the XT1250 came in 32GB. But the XT1225 has additional LTE and HSPA bands the XT1250 does not have. The XT1250 is the 32GB clone of the Verizon Droid Turbo XT1254. If Verizon had not demanded an "exclusive", the XT1250 is what they would have gotten.

"Moto Maxx" was the global brand name for the Quark. But Verizon demanded an exclusive, so they got the same phone re-named as the Droid Turbo. Then, in India, there was a former carrier called Max or Maxx, and Motorola didn't want people to think this NEW cutting edge phone had anything to do with that out of business carrier, so they re-named it Moto Turbo for the India market. As a result of all those brands names, we call the phone by it's internal name: Quark.

This part confused me a little bit... TWRP is basically a separate operating system you boot to, so you can make backups, restore backups -- or easily flash modifications like ROMs, kernels, newer cameras. You won't see it elsewhere in the regular GUI.

Unless you are talking about having an easy way to boot to TWRP... in custom ROMs that's an option you can add to the "power menu" -- power off, reboot, reboot to recovery. You can also download TWRP Manager app from Google Play and reboot to TWRP from a shortcut of that app. (See the app first view to be "reboot"; that app can be a little confusing.)

As for Quark custom ROMs, here's your current choices:

InChazz,
It took me awhile to understand firmware/os but got it now. I installed Resurrection and Titanium and Gapps and Super SU. Problems now are:
I froze Google play ( just cause I hate all things Google) and it made Titanium not work. Uninstalled Titanium with intent to re install but download says already installed and won't let me re install. Same with Google Play but I'm trying sideload GApps again via ADB.
Also MEIN reading incompatible with Verizon network on Verizon website. I purchased thinking that it was Verizon compatible like my current xt1254. Verizon sucks also but that's not new news.
Any suggestions welcome.

If you put in an already activated Verizon SIM card into the phone, it will work (or should work). We have people using the XT1250 on Verizon. Verizon just won't give you a new SIM card for the phone.

Google Play is the service that checks your apps to see if they need updating, and lets you download from Google Play store. While Titanium Backup can and will also keep track of apps you sideload that are not from Google Play Store, Titanium Backup itself is from Google Play.

@bhb27 runs a no GAPPs on his phone but instead runs something (I think) that emulates Google Play service running. That's something you can investigate. But if you run GAPPs (as I do), you need Google Play to keep them automatically updated.

JimChazz,
I have also tried

---------- Post added at 01:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:13 PM ----------

Chazz,
I have also tried my activated SIM card into the xt1250 but didn't get onto the network. I can work with that further to see what the problem is. That gives me a solid direction to work in.
So okay I'm stuck with Google Play. I'll have to figure out how to re install, it (Google Play) has record of being on both devices but it's not too be found on the new phone, and the PlayStore blocks a new download encounter.
When I check the phone this morning, maybe the GApps sideload I started will let me re flash it and then I'm off to the races.
Cheers
