Our excellent CM dev @Skrilax_CZ wrote this up in his CM13 thread. Never hurts to have updated bootloader and radio.

Flash steps after you extract the zip:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
mfastboot flash partition gpt.bin
mfastboot flash motoboot bootloader.img
mfastboot flash radio radio.img

His downloads are for Brazil and India bootloaders and I flashed the Brazil bootloader and radio on both my Puerto Rico and Mexico Moto Maxx XT1225. BUT, I am running custom ROM (Resurrection Remix 6.0.1).

For someone running stock on XT1225 it may not be safe to crossflash only bootloader and radio from another region XT1225. (It may be, but you would have to try that at your own risk.) But on stock ROM you would be flashing the entire image to update to Marshmallow -- not just Marshmallow bootloader and radio.

Whereas on custom CM-based Marshmallow ROMs, all you want/need are the updated bootloader and radio -- and on XT1225 they are all compatible with each other.

Rooting doesn't affect radio/modem. Rooting just makes you "admin" of your phone. So, I don't see how that caused your Wi-Fi problem.

1) but curious, which SuperSu version did you use to root? The one in the OP? Super Su beta 2.62? That's all you can use for initial root. Again, rooting itself should not cause Wi-Fi issues, but maybe you didn't root correctly.

2) You can always flash @bhb27 Clean Modem Status zip in TWRP recovery, to see if that clears up your issue. It basically clears the cache of your radio/modem -- but usually it's used due to cellular connection or GPS issues when people flash new ROMs. Still, it can't hurt and may help.

CLEAN MODEM STATUS ZIP

AND/or you can re-flash 6.0.1 XT1225 radio in TWRP recovery. Package by @bhb27:

Radio_Flasher_Stock_MPG24.107-70.2_XT1225.zip
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=57164

Use both. See what happens.

Yes. For all the Motorola Quark phones (Moto Maxx XT1225, U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, Moto Turbo XT1225 and Droid Turbo XT1254), you have to unlock bootloader to get permanent root and to install TWRP. (Temp root will not let you write to the system, and really doesn't do any good.)

I know with other manufacturers, like LG with the LG G2 and LG G3 (both of which I have extensive experience) you are able to root and install TWRP without unlocking the bootloader -- but with these Motorola phones, YES unlocking the bootloader in necessary.
  • For the XT1225 Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo and XT1250 U.S. Moto Maxx, it's an easy FREE unlock code from Motorola upon request. Instructions are in the OP.
  • For the XT1254 Droid Turbo, the affiliated carrier Verizon demanded Motorola keep that bootloader locked down. So, for the Droid Turbo XT1254, you have to use a paid app called Sunshine to unlock the bootloader -- and it only works on Lolllipop firmware. In the OP, I give a link for another guide specifically for the Droid Turbo phones, as the bootloader unlock process is different.

Again for all the other Quarks in this series (Moto Maxx and Moto Turbo), it's a FREE code from Motorola and works on all firmware released for these phones (Kitkat, Lollipop. Marshmallow). This guide is specifically written for the Moto Maxx and Moto Turbo phones. I own three Moto Maxx XT1225 phones.

do we have a way to backup DRM keys on a specific part of the MMC where the bootloader info is stored for us to restore to unlocked state. I usually relock my bootloader after trying some roms. I want to try the CR droid and RR. Does the ROM stable enough? I notice that motorola xt1225 have problem with its radio. Its weak on picking up radio signals.

I don't know, as I never re-lock my bootloader. I like to own my phone, and you can only do that with root. Only if the bootloader is unlocked will you have root. I run many, many apps that require root.

I don't really understand people who want to re-lock bootloader... With this phone the status code will still show it was once unlocked.
  • Status code 0 (zero) is locked and has never been unlocked. Once unlocked you will never see that again, even if re-locked.
  • Status code 2 is locked after being unlocked
  • Status code 3 is unlocked
Both those ROMs are stable but I am still on RR 6.X as I use CM themes and Xposed modules, neither of those are yet compatible with Nougat. The RR Nougat is probably the better of the two right now, even though it's the same dev for both ROMs. He puts permission flags into that ROM to allow you to download most of the Moto apps from the Play Store if you want any, and other touches.

Exactly what I said in the op. Go to this page (URL below) and use the file you see right there with the most recent date. @bhb27 updates TWRP fairly regularly so I can't keep updating my instruction to say which one to specifically use. Just use the most recent.

On that page, right now (on January 30, 2017) the most recent TWRP image is from January 23, 2017. But if he updates it next month, then it will be the one with the February 2017 date.
