If I had more time I might consider it! As a "spare time project" I can't even keep up adding the features I want to lightflow (my todo list has at least 100 things on it!)
Maybe if I managed to change to working full time on apps I will do :)

I've run into a bit of an annoyance - I've got light flow set to flash a white LED when the device is charging, which works fine with the screen off/locked. However when I unlock the 'stock' yellowy/orange charging LED comes on.

Is it possible to turn this off? Would it be a ROM issue?

There is no charging LED in the stock ROM, you must be running a custom ROM with something in it to do this, or have some additional app.

I am running a custom ROM (Dark Jelly) - I'll search through and see if there's a setting for the LED.

Edit: found it under Interface -> System. I clearly didn't look very hard the first time >_<

Hi there, first-time poster.

Just wanted to let you know that this app is GREAT! The Nexus 4's built-in LED is rather ignored by default (Facebook of all things tipped me off that the even phone HAD a notification LED), and Light Flow really unlocks the potential of it.

Just one weird issue though. When I've got multiple notifications, Light Flow can't seem to decide which color to display when.

As a test, I've got Bluetooth (blue) and Phone Signal (white) turned on (two permanent notifications). What happens, is once I turn the screen off, it goes something like this:

Blue, blu-WHITE!, blue, blu-WHITE!, etc (although sometimes it's white being interrupted by blue instead).

Basically, it's not cycling properly, with the blue starting to come on a second time in a row, then getting interrupted by the white. Expected behavior is simply blue, white, blue, white.

I've tried playing with the notification method/frequency settings in the settings section, and the LED flash rate in the notification itself, but with no change apart from the expected behavior of those settings. Any tips on how to solve this?

Rooted Nexus 4, stock Android 4.2.2, full version of Light Flow

Thanks!

EDIT: Just to note, it's not always the same pattern. To better explain it, it seems like they're out of phase with each other. Sometimes it looks fine (like right now), sometimes one interrupts the other (like five minutes ago). Seems to vary over time, never staying consistent on the same pattern for more than a few minutes at a time.

That's true. I'd like to get it blue, white, blue white and technically I could but that would mean every flash off the led I'd need to partially wake the phone to run the code to switch the led off or on. The current method just issues an on/off timing to the led driver via android and therefore only needs to change less frequently. I've found choosing a faster flash rate looks better as the difference between 4 or 5 quicker flashes is much less noticeable. I've one or two ideas in the future I'll probably experiment with this and improving it, but very few phones actually pay any attention to the actual timings sent to the led. e.g. motorola phones ignore it and have a fixed led flash rate. The galaxy nexus has a few speeds but it's not really user customisable (there's probably about 5 different pre-defined speeds which the driver will just pick the nearest speed). It's the same for the S3 and note2.

My LED doesn't seem to be showing the correct colour occasionally. It doesn't happen often enough for me to spot a pattern but right now it's a fast green blink which is my SMS notification but it should be blue for Facebook. The lightflow widget shows blue and the debugger says it should be facebook so I don't know what's wrong. Anything I can grab to help?

The debugging widget only shows this

Last notification switched off: Last off: 17:52:50505: FACEBOOKMESS
Last notification switched on: Last on: 18:41:32935: FACEBOOKMESS
Last accessibility accessed: 19:20:54: Accessbility last accessed: com.google.android.gm
Notifications currently on: Total notifications on: 1
FACEBOOKMESS is ON

I'm sorry if this had been covered. Using the app it is difficult to search a specific thread.

I am interested in how this app impacts battery life. Can someone prewar past some stat screenshots?

Thanks

Depends on how you configure it (color change speed is the main culprit here) and how many notifications you get. For me the impact is negible :)

I'm not sure about that one. The only thing I see occasionally is the default slow flashing white light. This can happen if android decides to kill off the background service (for example if you are running some intensive apps). Android will kill the service and reschedule it to start again a few seconds later (I think it's between 2.5 and 5 seconds). If another app raises a notification in this small window of time that uses an LED it's possible for it to take control until the notification bar is pulled down. I don't really use facebook messenger, but I guess by default it doesn't flash green does it?

I'll probably have to add an option in for this. People in the thread were previously wanting the clear option to clear everything except persistent notifications that were still relevant, such as silent, bluetooth, charging and low battery so I made a change recently to reflect that.

Is there any reply on how the LED blinks out of nowhere sometimes without an actual notification.. I read people complaining about it but don't want to look through pages.. Mines does that once in a while..

The best thing to do is add the lightflow widgets to a homescreen and then when you get the problem see what notification is listed as on. It could be an app where I need to make a slight adjustment, or it's also possible if you are swiping away notifications but don't have the "pull down notification bar" option checked for that notification type.

Ahhh! That explains it. I've seen that quite a few times. The widget shows no notifications, but if I clear it via the widget the notification goes away.

btw, are there any needed changes for the app for 4.2.2? I've noticed some strange things since updating like calendar alerts not clearing again.

Luckily one of the android blog sites helped test the app so I managed to get a release out before the phone came out. I'd hoped to get one myself, but 10 cart errors later and they'd all gone!

Glad it seems to be working ok. I'm working on improving the calendar reminder notification as they seem to go a little crazy at the moment due to change in the way notifications are displayed now (ie snooze a notification and it won't totally disappear from your notification bar - you won't get an icon, but it's still there when you pull down the bar). So this is causing some extra notifications while on snooze, but I'm hoping to get a fix out for it soon. At least I can recreate it on my galaxy nexus on 4.2.

Just thought I would share that this app works great with the nexus 4. It actually is running flawless for me right now go check it out in play store. You can control your led light on the front of the device with just about any notification and color

Request for sliding messenger and fusion messenger support.

It's already supported, just make sure you've not disabled the stock notification option in sliding messaging and enable the standard "sms" option.

---------- Post added at 06:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:52 AM ----------

Seconding the request for Fusion Messenger. Also, I've read that support will be added for Messaging+GV, when can we expect the next update? I'd be willing to help test if it means getting LED notifications for my SMS back sooner :)

Both should be added in the next "non emergency" release!

I'm using LF for two days. Today I found a strange problem.

After I finish the call or hang up, and when i turn phone to sleep (screen off) i get notification LED for missed call (because it's red i know it's for missed call-i set red colour led for that kind of notif...)

I I turn off missed call notification in LF, than there's no LED after hang up/finished call.

Anyone with same problem? Any solution for that?

Are you using the stock dialler?

Just updated my GMail app to the new version and Light Flow immediately crashed.

I'm not positive they're related, but fairly certain as it was working perfectly before that.

I know about that one! I got 15,000 reports in 11 hours. Hopefully 3.6.0 has fixed it for you!

---------- Post added at 07:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:55 AM ----------

Has anyone been able to get the new 'Show in DashClock' option to work? I figured we'd have to enable LightFlow in DashClock but it doesn't appear as an extension. I guess it's not done.

It won't do anything (yet). It wasn't supposed to be in the release, but in the mad panic regarding getting over 100 emails per minute (yes per minute) at one point yesterday I quickly pushed out the update.

I quickly hacked out the dashclock options, but missed that setting. Over the next few days I'll put it all back in and release. I just hadn't quite finished it yet so decided to quickly remove it.

Once there, you'll get up to 5 notification options in the dashclock settings page (I can add more if people need more than 5). They will work in priority order (based on the new priority drag and drop settings in lightflow). Yesterday my plans for the evening were to tidy up a few more dashclock options (it's been quite a big thing to add) until gmail pushed their update. Just glad that a few kind google employees had contacted me while it was in beta as it took a good few weeks to actually do the fix.

I didn't have a version of the new release of gmail beta (due to NDA's) and didn't know what was coming, but I did get crash reports of feedback from some kind google folk! Just a shame I didn't have chance to fix the complete next release of lightflow before they pushed the update.

I'm quite enjoying having dashclock show me my traffic delays from google now though via the (upcoming) release of lightflow!

Hey, good to know that you are working on this. I too had the new hangout installed and found out the LED stopped flashing on my N4. Will be great if you can do a incremental update, first for root user then non-root once you figure it out.

I've just released version 3.7.1 of the app to add basic support for hangouts. No automatic clearing of the notification when read remotely yet. I'm going to work on it for root users and hope if June 10th is android 4.3 day that there's a new API access to this for non root as I'm running out of things to try and everything is tied down to prevent 3rd party access to the information needed.

Changelog for the release is here: http://www.folioflow.com/ff/page/website/lightflow/pageId/1693

Also note that if the app runs in the foreground now it'll always show the notification icon. Not something I wanted to do, but google got in touch asking me to do this for a future release of android where they thinking of making it mandatory. They've been quite keen too checking on progress and ensuring it's been added - hopefully that means something new is coming soon!

Still crashed when uninstalling gmail update. So...I updated the app. The notifications still go through.

Did you uninstall and reinstall the app? Did you install the PA gapps?

New version release (only full so far, working on the lite version)

    Version 3.6.1 (Release 1071) - 20 March 2013
    - fix for google now not showing items on some phones
    - added support for labels in gmail in android 4.0 and 4.1 - didn't bother nexus 4 users ;)
    - Fixed gtalk not working
    - Fixes sms's sent from e-mail addresses causing a crash
    - Fixed repeated crashing for some with new notifications (reference to bigDump in the crash report)
    - Removed dashclock reference (until the feature is complete)
    - Added whatsapp contact specific notifications

Known issues: Google labels not showing for some gmail accounts, still looking into this
Some old entries in the priority list
Contact specific gmail documentation not yet written
