Hey everyone! I got a request to make a thread on how to run CM13 on the Nexus 5X with force encrypt disabled. You can still encrypt if you choose. This really speeds up boot time, but there is no other real world speed difference.

Pre Requisites
  • Unlocked bootloader
  • Custom recovery
  • CM13 Zip and Gapps
  • Computer with a terminal
  • Modified boot.img provided

THIS WILL REMOVE ALL USER DATA
Awesome. Now knowing that, to continue...

Steps
  1. Ensure you have working ADB on your computer. Plug your phone in via USB cable.
  2. Open terminal. Type in ADB devices. Ensure your device shows up in the list as a sting of numbers
  3. After you insure that ADB is working, move the CM13 zip and the gapps zip into internal storage
  4. Install the CM13 zip and gapps via TWRP but DO NOT start the system (hit the reboot system button)
  5. Hit the reboot to bootloader button in TWRP
  6. Open terminal on your PC
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash boot <the image that I provided>
Code:
fastboot format userdata
Code:
fastboot reboot
You're all done! Good luck! I am not yet sure if you can update OTA. Let me know.

Special thanks to @Quarx2k and @Fevax

What setting in the boot image actually makes it force encryption?

Thanks, but that's for the Nexus 6, shamu. The 5X isn't supported by them for some reason yet.

The fstab. I don't know how to make a zip to flash just the fstab file or if it's even possible.
