There's a link to an article a page or two back that says the hardware is 100% identical. If that's the case, the radios and all the rest should be no problem. That said, as I see it, the big problem is the partitions. There's not a snowballs chance in you know where that they'll be the same. I suspect without an RUU, that's a bigger problem than most realize. Would be a huge undertaking to figure that all out. Not holding my breath on this one. But then again, I could be wrong. :)

There shouldn't be a problem if M8 Android and M8 Windows have the exact same guts.
The drivers will be different, having been written for an entirely different OS, but again, if on the inside it is the exact same phone as M8 Android, there should not be any issues.
There is software on your phone besides the OS that interacts between the hardware and software. That would be the radio, now since Verizon is CDMA and our phones are GSM they are not completely interchangeable. There's a possibility that it will work unmodified, but odds are HTC made is specific to Verizon so it will not work on other networks.

The rest of the software will work fine, just not the radio

Oh, I see what you mean. Well, the good news is that AT&T is going to sell M8 Windows as well: http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/19/att-htc-m8-windows/

So we not only have a GSM version coming, it will probably come unbranded at some point. With that in mind, if the hardware is all truly identical, even the radio shouldn't be an issue.

I think the Verizon version while being mostly the same hardware, the htc spec page shows the bands it uses (link below). While this would mostly work id suspect there may be a compatibility issue with the 4g radio driver if indeed they limited it to the one carrier with for example the UK O2 4g network as it uses 800Mhz which the Verizon version seems not to support.

The ATT version or indeed if Sprint carries this windows version we may have more luck with in the uk on O2 4G as the spec below shows.

Upshot is no one will know until we have the phone / RUU in our hands to see where we lie with the driver support ... interesting taking a look though .

A quote from the article linked to in the second post of this thread:
As a Verizon exclusive, it'll come with dual-band LTE (bands 4 and 13) along with quad-band HSPA+ (850/900/1900/2100), quad-band GSM/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900) and dual-band CDMA. This means it'll work internationally, though I'd prefer to see some extra LTE bands for other countries.
From what that says, GSM shouldn't be a problem.

Id be surprised if the RUU was not the least of the problems to be faced.. WP8 or whatever its called used secure boot and to get around that im sure will need some work, especially if the bootloader in the M8 is not the same, exactly, as the M8 WP8 variant.

It's been leaked a few times that the bootloaders are compatible

I doubt it. This is Verizon we're talking about here. I'm on Verizon. Still waiting for an Android RUU and it's been how many months? Once again, don't hold your breath. :)

Well it appears the only full ruu I have found was for the GPE. In any case I have a feeling it will come eventually

Ok so I bit the dust and bought it. I still have my android M8 also. Until I figure out which one I like better. But if anyone wants me to do anything to get this whole development thing started then lay it on me. I have no hacking knowledge but I know my way around a PC. ?

Too bad the Microsoft store has Like 100 apps?

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app

We can have a flamewar somewhere else. Let's focus on how this could be the second coming of the great HD2 instead.
