All the methods of installing the Google Dialer on the OP5 kinda worked but would not allow the user to answer/decline calls from the notification popup. Well, did some digging on this and found a solution. This is a Magisk Module, so for those that use Magisk, simple flash and restart. Be sure you select the new Phone app as default for calls. Also, need to go in and manually set the permissions for the app.

This can be done by going to "app info" for default OnePlus phone app and disabling, then by going to Google Phone "app info" and clicking on Phone App, then on the "Configure apps screen, changing the default Phone App to the only option you should have (after disabling the default one) which is the Google "Phone". Then make sure your new Phone app has all it's permissions.

Enjoy!

Update: TWRP install method added for those not using Magisk. Just flash the zip and good to go.

Thanks :) can you make a non magisk flash able zip? I'm decrypted and magisk only works on encrypted setup as far I know.

This *may* work. I am new to installer scripts, so hopefully I wrote this correctly... Please let me know.

Can anyone confirm if the zip works?

I have not tested it as I use Magisk, but it should work. Worse case is that it will still not answer from notification. Should not cause any boot loop or anything like that. Have you tried the zip? There should be no issues with it, if you have issues please let me know so I can fix it...

I was very much annoyed by the error "This device isn't supported and phone calls may not work correctly". I have seen somewhere in this thread that adding "dialer_experience.xml" in to the folder system/etc/systemconf ans set the file permission to 644 helps eliminating this error. But for anyone using magisk version 2.1a, this xml file cannot be added directly in to the folder using root file explorer.

To help this situation, I have added this file in the same magisk module (see attached). I tested and it works. I flashed this magisk module (after the mod) and I do not see this annoying error message anymore.

Hope it helps someone in this thread.

    Here ya go:

    - Magisk: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673791459329063964

    - System: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620768848

    - Revert to Stock Dialer&Contacts: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=889964283620768791

Note: I modified both mods to "delete" stock Dialer&Contacts, you can restore it if you want. For Magisk just uninstall the module, for system(aka TWRP) use "Revert to Stock" zip.

Remember to change default Dialer to Google's and also grant permissions.

hey are you facing an issue where this pop up comes that your device is not supported and calling may not work ?
i have no issues after this but this message bugs me alot
maybe it has to do with the changes i made to the build prop like making op5 a pixel xl 2 for google lens?

Place this file into /system/etc/sysconfig and set permissions to 644.

3/ In OOS allow all permissions for Contacts & Phone (Dialer) and put Google Phone to the Phone application by default
