haven't started yet, but is it possible to split the sd-card. 50% internal adoptable storage and 50% normal sd-card space?
and a second question, can I read/write the "adoptable storage"-Card with my Windows10 PC?
I'm also thinking of splitting my memory into 2 and using half as a portable storage and half as internal, does someone know if this is possible?
Answer to the second question is "NO", your windows OS won't be able to read the adoptable storage.
So, I tried this, splitted my 128Gb Samsung memory card into 2, the phone saw the 2 partitions on booting and prompted to format either has internal or potable, I formatted the first partition as portable but before the formatting finished, the process crashed and the phone will only see the first partition. I had to remove the memory card and reformatted by the PC to recover the whole size. I tried this several times and still get the same result.
I'll appreciate someone's help in knowing how to keep the 2 partitions so I can use one as internal and the other as portable.
Thanks all.
Some have reported it working for Android 7.I did not try the fix yet on my A5 2016 A510F.
Is it working on the last Samsung Android 7.0 ?
I am also interested partitioning the microSD into 2 partitions if possible. I read that it is possible on the S7 with the following command from ADB :
adb shell , and then:
sm list-disks to get the SD card name (let's call it sdcardname), and then:
sm partition disk:sdcardname private
sm partition disk:sdcardname mixed:50
where 50 mean 50% of the full sdcard size for mountable partition.
No idea if it is working. I will try next week if the fix is confirmed here for Android 7 (as it change the kernel of Android 6 and not 7, I am not sure....)
As you may all know Samsung disabled the Adoptable storage function. Even the well known S7 hack doesn't work on some Samsung devices.
Well now it's back...
Thanks to some legwork (no pun intended) by @longshanks197 we now have a workable solution.
I have created this patch to fix the issue by patching the boot image and replacing sm.jar in system.
This will enable the adoptable storage feature in Settings>Storage
This should work for pretty much any Samsung device running Marshmallow
I advise making a backup with TWRP before proceeding.
NOTE: Due to Samsung's modifications the combined storage capacity may show as incorrect, ignore this and pay attention to the separate internal and external capacity which is correct.
INSTALL:
Copy the zip below to your device then install with TWRP.

Hi danielfr40,Thanks a lot for this patch which work fine on Galaxy A5 2016
For information, after your patch, if you reinstall a stock rom, you'r patch is still active. So, you will have a legacy rom, with automatic update through internet, no risk of lock if protection against modified installation is on.
the only trouble is that I was started by default in energy saver mode, but every thing is normal after desactivation of this mode
I have reported your work on a french forum
Thanks a lot again
Yes I confirmHi danielfr40,
Do you mean that if you have modified your Marshmallow 6.0 firmware on your Galaxy A5 2016 firmware to enable adoptable storage, you can then use Smartswitch to update to the latest 7.0 Nougat firmware, and your adoptable storage format and alkl your data will be preserved?
I have been postponing the upgrade of my Galaxy A5 2016 to Nougat for more than a year, because I am scared I will lose data or the adoptable storage feature I currently have setup with the Marshmallow 6.0 firmware thanks to the instructions provided by ashyx...
So if anyone can confirm whether it is possible to upgrade from a modified Marshmallow with an SD card configured with adoptable storage, to a Nougat firmware while retaining all data and the adoptable storage configuration, then I'll be really relieved to know I can safely update...
Cheers,
Laurent
IMO it's well worth the upgrade. TouchWiz is really toned down and is finally becoming a nice GUI experience. Many thanks for your quick reply danielfr40, and for the good news !!!
I'll try to upgrade to Nougat, I am currently rooted on Marshmallow but do not care very much if I lose the root privilege, it's becoming more of a hindrance than a good thing nowadays, with more and more apps detecting that you are rotted and blocking you...
Thanks again a lot;
Best regards,
Laurent

Well, actually, after seeing a video on the highlights of Samsung's Nougat build for the A5 2016, I'm not sure it's really worth upgrading:
I must say I hate the new status / notifications area at the top, which requires you to swipe twice and scroll down to access the screen brightness slider, which I find is really cumbersome as I use it a lot when finding myself suddenly in bright sunshine, and it must be a pain to search for the slider while you are dazzled by the sun, whereas in Marshmallow you know exactly where the slider sits so you can even adjust it while you are blinded...
I was not really impressed either by the new Phone or Messages application redesign, I think they are less legible and there is less contrast than before for the menus...
So, al in all, I'm starting to think it's not worth the hassle...
But maybe you might have some good points about Nougat on the A5 2016 you can tell about Daniel, and give me a good (if not compelling) reason to upgrade, other than more upd-to-date and "secure" system ??
IMO it's well worth the upgrade. TouchWiz is really toned down and is finally becoming a nice GUI experience.
It has a nice smoothness to it now.
my steps were like this:
- put the zip file into my internal storage.
- Turn off my phone.
- Going to recovery mode.
- Installing the zip file WITHOUT the file signature verification.
- rebooted the phone.
- Going to (Settings) then (Storage) clicked on "Format as PORTABLE".
- Then a notification came up saying I got a new SD Card.
- Clicked it and showed that I can format it as "INTERNAL STORAGE".
- then exported all my photos Automatically as asked from the format proccess itself.
- took 3 minutes then its all done.
No reason why it shouldn't unless Samsung have changed something.
Thanks a lot. Its works great for me as well.
I'm using A710FD, Indian firmware, 6.0.1.
Please, I would also like to request you or any of the developers here, to develop a permissive kernel for A710F, Marshmallow
I've Link2sd paid version and it doesn't seem to work on MM.(Mount storage error !!).
