Was able to get imei back. But the network is not detected.

Probably the Rom will not boot without magisk. Try to boot without magisk. If it works no problem. If not goto recovery and flash magisk

Flashing any gapps package with google camera breaks your camera. If you want full package use aroma and deselect google camera from it. I was able to flash stock gapps by using a configuration file to skip google camera. Please search how to use a configuration file for gapps before trying...

I'm trying to get this work on Android 9.0. USSD parser is working fine. But I couldn't get this to work with SMS.

That happens when you flash gcam from GApps. Flash the rom again and flash a gapps package without gcam or use a gapps configuration file to remove gcam from your stock gapps package.

Making Mi A1 project treble compatible means re-partitioning the device. That will result in a full format of user's data. Therefore they will never try to give an update that formats our data completely. There's also a possibility of bricking the device.

I haven't tried it and I will not try it. But if you can push it into the system and It doesn't work, try setting correct permissions for the files after pushing it.

No you can't If you are on july update and rooted, just open magisk manager and uninstall magisk. then reboot your device. then take the update via OTA. you don't need to boot into patched boot files to get the OTA. they are used to ROOT the device.

You can use the working recovery that mounts all partitions. The link to that recovery is attached on a post by some user few pages back.
