Another observation here: The corners of the screen itself are not rounded. The protective glass on top of the screen has black painted bezels with rounded corners, so the pixels are there but they're hidden under the paint. You can see this by tilting your phone while it's booting and looking...

Well, it's an LCD compared to an OLED and an older CPU from the same line. A newer CPU is usually LESS power hungry, unless it's a higher end model. Same about Android versions, especially with recent versions, their main focus has been battery life improvement.

Root is not a security threat. *Misuse* of root is the threat. It's just like clicking "run as admin" in Windows: sometimes you just need to do that, but nobody said you should do it on everything you see left and right. If you don't trust an app, don't grant it root access, simple as that.
