Post [BEGINNERS GUIDE][Lollipop 5.1.1 .236] Root,Backup TA, UBL, Install Recovery

The whole point of this thread is to not unlock your bootloader until you have a TA backup. I don't know what "real" recovery is - is there a "fake" recovery and a "real" recovery? :D I was on the latest official firmware, which is 5.1. Anyway, I've already decided not to bother and just...

Post [BEGINNERS GUIDE][Lollipop 5.1.1 .236] Root,Backup TA, UBL, Install Recovery

I can't flash anything in Flashtool, whenever it asks me to reboot to flash mode, I do the volume down thing and the LED flashes red, then green, and turns off. Both adb and fastboot work just fine. I've tried a few different USB cables, different USB ports (my motherboard doesn't have any 2.0...

Post **What phone should I buy next?** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!

That might be true, but those models are all basically the same. So if any of them works for you, you can't really go wrong with either of them. GSMArena has a very nice "phone finder" tool btw

Post **What phone should I buy next?** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!

Why do you think there are many variations nowadays? I think it's the opposite, they're all the same: same size, same quad camera setups, same ugly notch/hole design, there's literally nothing to choose from compared to the times when we had anything ranging from 3.5" to 6". Now it's 5.6" to...

Because Spotify doesn't have what I want and because mobile data has a price. And yes, I remember not only 4.1 but also 2.3 - tell me ONE reason why I should care about that when I will never exit the music player app anyway?

Post **What phone should I buy next?** -- Not sure what device to buy? Ask here!

Well, as I said, I only need a file manager and an audio player, that's all. I'm basically planning to use it as a DAP (mp3 player, more codecs) - I do not need 2020 specs for that, 2010 is fine. My current phone doesn't have a microSD slot so I can't store all my music on it, and I really don't...

I have a set of very non-standard requirements, and I'm looking for an old, cheap used smartphone instead of a new model. Not sure if anyone here will be able to help me, but here we go: As physically small as possible - I mean, I'm talking 3.5" or even smaller here - I don't care how...

Post [Guide] Easily Build and Install LineageOS 17.1 with or without Gapps replacement

The stock camera doesn't work at all in my build, but I found a Gcam port that works. And I have a question: where does the rounded screen corners overlay come from? I don't think it comes from AOSP, as setting sysui_rounded_size in secure settings doesn't change anything. Is there a patch I can...

    Post Disable rounded screen corners?

Another observation here: The corners of the screen itself are not rounded. The protective glass on top of the screen has black painted bezels with rounded corners, so the pixels are there but they're hidden under the paint. You can see this by tilting your phone while it's booting and looking...

Post How? to use 7 Slate PC Digitizer Pen Stylet?????

First of all, it's stylus, not "stylet". Secondly, I don't know what exact stylus you got, but if it's an active one with thin tip, that requires a special digitizer on the screen. Generally if a tabet doesn't already come with an active stylus, it doesn't have the digitizer either.

Post what is the difference between a thread and a computer process?

A process is basically an instance of a program. A thread is just a piece of code that gets its own separate CPU time. In ideal world, each thread would run on a separate CPU core, but since you can have thousands of software threads and only a handful of CPU cores, usually multiple threads...

Post Pixel 3a battery: almost 9hrs SOT

Pixel count doesn't matter for LCD because each pixel is NOT lit individually. There are 3-4 LEDs for the whole screen, that's all. Refreshing more pixels takes more energy but that has nothing to do with backlight and doesn't consume nearly as much energy at all. OLED consumes WAY less energy...

Post Pixel 3a battery: almost 9hrs SOT

Well, it's an LCD compared to an OLED and an older CPU from the same line. A newer CPU is usually LESS power hungry, unless it's a higher end model. Same about Android versions, especially with recent versions, their main focus has been battery life improvement.

Post Pixel 3a battery: almost 9hrs SOT

I don't really understand why y'all are so hyped about this battery life. I had Song Xperia X Compact before and it had better battery life. I expected a least a slight improvement from the OLED and newer parts.

Thanks, I'll definitely need that :D Some interesting compact phones tend to come out once in a while in Japan, but seems like they never leave the local market. At one point I was thinking of importing one, but the shops that export them add quite big margins and then there's import tax. I...

sorry but versus.com is just about the worst comparison you can find. I checked notebookcheck, they have a thorough benchmark comparison between Snapdragon 660 and this one. Post Paranoid Android Pie Beta - Xperia X Compact

well, if your device is locked/encrypted, it's just as secure, root or not. If they want to run an app with or without root privileges, they first need to get through the login/encryption. Oh and it depends on the phone, but some of them can be rooted without wiping data, which makes this...

Well then I'll have to live with my current phone for another year or two. After all, the only reason for upgrading is the slow CPU, and Pixel 3a won't fix that. I'm currently running OmniROM Pie with some random reboots, but that doesn't happen very often (maybe once per week or so) and it...

Post Paranoid Android Pie Beta - Xperia X Compact

Root is not a security threat. *Misuse* of root is the threat. It's just like clicking "run as admin" in Windows: sometimes you just need to do that, but nobody said you should do it on everything you see left and right. If you don't trust an app, don't grant it root access, simple as that.

Do you guys really pay $50 just to try an unofficial port of an unproven OS on your phone? Heh. Don't ask me about it. In most phones it's enough to just boot into fastboot/bootloader/whatever and it says "UNLOCKED" OR "RELOCKED" at the top line. So, are you trying to say that restoring DRM keys will change that and all other possible tripwires back to normal?
