    Post [GUIDE]Convert Docomo SO-05G to SGP771

Very cool to see somebody do something new with these. The hardware is still superb; it's such a pity that the software was abandoned while it was still so young. I'd love to see Oreo or Pie on these.

Post Oreo update starts rolling out today!

And in two years, you'll find that you have to replace that to get the latest Wear version again. Screw that, I won't be buying another smartwatch from anyone. ---------- Post added at 12:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:03 PM ---------- I'd return it, if I were you. Huawei has...

Post Just received OTA - Oct 5th security patches

Interesting, I'm also on the October 5th, 2017 security patch level and Android OS 7.1.1, but I have completely different version numbers just ten days after you. Mine are: Android Wear 2.6.0.176354550 Google Play 11.7.46 (530-175121617) Kind of weird that they'd bother releasing Wear 2.5.x...

Post Little bit bent/twisted Xperia XZ (6 months of use)

A sample size of one person isn't enough to declare a widespread problem. It's just as likely if not more so that it's something to do with your own setup or your unintended biases. ---------- Post added at 04:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:29 PM ---------- The number of bars is...

Post Sony can't or won't fix nougat Bluetooth metadata issue

Customer service / tech support people at basically any company do not have information on release dates until they are imminent, and do not typically have a way to escalate problems to the developers. You're talking to the wrong people.

Post Huawei Watch: any user? "Lost Pairing" bug when using audio?

Yes, it happens on this phone, or at least on my XZ Dual version. But it also happens on other phone *and* watch brands, and as far as I can tell is a Google bug, not a phone / watch manufacturer bug.

Post Xperia Z4 tablet and Android 7.0 Nougat

Oh yes, don't misunderstand me. This is hands-down the best tablet on the market, and I'm thrilled I got one. I figure I should easily get another 2-3 years out of it, by which time someone will likely have released something better and I'll just have to jump brands if I'm right.
  10. K

Post Why is the phone so laggy?

Sounds like a misbehaving app. You should easily be able to get 6-8+ hours screen on just by turning the brightness down some, if there's no app hogging all the power.

Post Xperia Z4 tablet and Android 7.0 Nougat

I'd say there's very, very little chance we'll ever see a followup to this tablet. * The Tablet Z arrived just six months after the Tablet S. The Z2 Tablet followed 12 months later. The Z3 Tablet Compact followed after another 7 months, and the Z4 Tablet another 8 months later. It has been 19...

Post Xperia XZ Dual Sim, Is This Phone Worth Buying ?!

Very happy with mine. It feels lovely, it's fast and smooth in operation, battery life is sufficient and call quality is the best of any mobile phone I've ever used. Really, my only issue with it at all is that the fingerprint reader struggles badly if you're even slightly sweaty. ----------...

Post How is the headphone jack socket quality?

No problems here on my Xperia XZ Dual (admittedly only had it a few weeks), nor any problems on my Xperia Z2 (had it for 2.5 years). One single device is finicky with my Xperia Z4 Tablet, but I'm guessing that's down to the device itself as cables seat firmly and all other devices work fine.

    Post XZ on T-Mobile LTE

I'm using an Xperia XZ Dual on T-Mobile USA with no problems whatsoever.

    Post SD card read/write speed

Manufacturer-quoted SD card read and write speeds are usually burst speeds, not sustained speeds which are far, far lower. Are you sure you're testing the burst speed, and not the sustained speed?

    Post Manual Camera Settings

If I get a moment, I'll make one when my phone arrives and I've had a chance to see what settings they've added since my just-died Xperia Z2.
  17. K

    Post Manual Camera Settings

That would be because it is shooting in priority mode, not fully manually. The aperture is fixed in smartphone cameras, so the only way to use a faster shutter speed without making the picture darker is to also increase the sensitivity, and the only way to use a slower shutter speed without...

    Post XZ on T-Mobile LTE

The dual SIM version also allows SD card support, just not when using two SIMs at once. But it also comes with double the storage (64GB vs. 32GB), so you're less likely to need an SD card in the first place.
  19. K

Post Sony's commitment to firmware updates?

You typically get a couple of years and a couple of major Android upgrades on Sony flagships, so that's the good news. The bad news is that they do sometimes withhold newer software features to newer models, and that security patches take a good while to come. (And even once available within...

Post Xperia Z4 tablet and Android 7.0 Nougat

Great news! This will likely be our last significant update - and I'm guessing the Z4 Tablet is probably Sony's last entry in that segment of the market, too* -- so hopefully Nougat is all it's cracked up to be! * The Tablet Z, Z2 Tablet and Z4 Tablet were all announced on almost exactly a...

Post Do You Think That The Xperia Z2 Will Ever Get An Android N Update Or Atleast CM14?

AFAIK Sony provides updates for 2-2.5 years, based on other Xperia Z-series models; I'm not aware of any which have been updated past the 2.5-year mark. The Z2 is two years old this month, and literally just got Marshmallow today. Hence I highly doubt we'll get Android N, as it is still more...

Post Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming to Z2 officially.

Well, well. I just got Marshmallow on my phone, so I now return by myself to eat humble pie. Sony has made right on its absolutely *awful* Stagefright bug fix by shipping Marshmallow about 2-6 weeks ahead of my guess. Well done, Sony!

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

In total, I've spent maybe 10-15 minutes on these forums in the last several months. My last complete backup, wipe and careful reinstallation of everything took about five or six hours. You have no idea what you're talking about. As for what XDA is about, I have 3.7x as many likes as you, even...

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

Because the Stagefright fix is quite straightforward, changing it requires little additional testing, and SONY HAS ALREADY COMPLETED THAT WORK FOUR MONTHS AGO. Of which part? That they chose not to release the update? Open Xperifirm and see for yourself. That customers are exposed to an...

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

That's inexcusable. For one thing, as I already pointed out the update was completely and ready to roll FOUR MONTHS ago. They could have rolled it any time in the last four months with very little effort. They chose not to, and have left their customers exposed to a critical security exploit...

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

It has now been as near as makes no difference FOUR months, and Sony still has yet to release this patch in many large markets including the USA, Australia and Russia. Utterly shameful given that this is a major security exploit which is known to be in the wild and has been for months.
  30. K

Post Xperia Beta Program - marshmallow beta testing

Even if it is reliable, it will also depend on your region. Some are beyond pathetic. For example, Sony had a full fix for the Stagefright bug which rolled in some regions last November. As of today, FOUR MONTHS later, it STILL hasn't been released for unlocked devices in the USA, Australia...

Post Xperia Beta Program - marshmallow beta testing

Because it doesn't matter how many disclaimers and warnings they put, they'll get deluged in support requests from users who don't understand what is the purpose of a beta test.

Post Android 6.0 Marshmallow is coming to Z2 officially.

Don't get ahead of yourself. That's for the Z5-series. Then there's the Z4 and Z3 to get something before we finally get it on the Z2. I'm betting we still have 2-3 months to wait...

Post Xperia Beta Program - marshmallow beta testing

They are completely different products with tweaks specific to those products in the operating system and drivers. Thus they have to be beta tested separately. The Z3+ update will already have been beta tested, and now it is about to be the Z2's turn.

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

It has been a full two months now, and still no sign of this major security patch for an exploit that is out there in the wild, even though it has been available in other regions all of this time. Am I allowed to be disgruntled yet, lee480, or do I have to continue to pretend that Samsung are worse?

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

So "better than it not appearing at all" was nonsense, by your own admission. Sony has done no better than Samsung has here, despite the puffery from Sony fanboys in this thread. ---------- Post added at 05:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:29 PM ---------- Just checked XperiFirm and...

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

Which Samsung flagship model doesn't yet have a Stagefright fix? Remember, flagship models like the Z2 only; no pointing at entry-level junk and trying to use it to justify Sony's delay on a flagship model.
  40. K

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

How *fast* Sony support their phones? You're joking, right? The word I would use to describe a company which sits on an update it has already completed but can't be bothered to release for an entire month is not "fast".
  41. K

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

Complete and utter nonsense. I shouldn't have to flash my phone's firmware to the wrong region to get a security patch in a timely manner. And if I want to retain warranty, I can't modify my own region's firmware to do Sony's job for them. This delay is indefensible.
  42. K

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

They've said we will be getting Marshmallow, so we will. However, the question is how long until we do. Given that about half of all regions for the Z2 haven't even received 23.4.A.1.264 (a critical update) almost an entire month after it was available inside Sony, I'm not holding my breath.
  43. K

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

If they have released a patch for the exact same phone in some markets but not bothered in others, then yes.
  44. K

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

Give it a day or two after what update? As I said, the update still hasn't been released in my market, a full three weeks later than other markets got it.
  45. K

Post New update (23.4.A.1.264) hits the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet with full Stagefright fix

Given that this update patches a critical security flaw, I have to say that Sony's rollout is pathetically slow. Some three weeks after the patch was finalized, it still hasn't been released for unbranded phones in many markets including the USA. Shame on you, Sony. Pull your finger out and...

Post Z4 Tablet battery life demolishes the competition!

Good grief. My Nexus 10 is barely past a year old, and I can get maybe 2.5 hours of screen-on time, three hours absolute max. Even when it was new, I think it was only capable of five hours or so. It's certainly never been close to 10 for me.
