    please can you advise how to make changes to vendor/build.prop with magisk installed as there is also sbin/.magisk/mirror/vendor/build.prop, editing vendor/build.prop does change the values and saves but does not reflect any changes in terms of functionality?

    you will need to flash the system.img from the GSI via fastboot and it will start after a reboot

    Thanks for the info, is there any advantage to flashing a standard AOSP ROM as opposed to a GSI ROM? And regards to building the ROM and flashing it, i think the difference is that for the standard ROM one needs the vendor blobs and the prebuilt kernel, whereas the GSI doesn't require any of...

    even though the device tree doesn't explain why there are additional mediatek framework files thanks for your input, why did you mean by "If you want anything long-term ish you will need kernel sources", lnog-term in what sense?

    as mediatek devices contain those framework files, are they not needed when creating a custom ROM ? examples are attached

    useful, what about the proprietary blobs in the system partition such as in system/lib and in mediatek devices there seems to be proprietary framework related files in system/framework such as mediatek-telephony-common.jar?

    The kernel is only used for the boot.img and recovery and using a prebuilt kernel may not help. Also it's quite likely that the framework codebase (which is found within system.img) is also vendor specific hence the vendor files on it's own may not help, which vendor files are you referring to...
