Post [Q&A] [DEVS only] Unpacking RAZR i boot images

I just tried that file you uploaded and it unpacked flawlessly with the unpack tool, what problem are you seeing more precisely? $ ./unpack ../boot.img bzImage ramdisk.cpio.gz $ file bzImage bzImage: Linux kernel x86 boot executable bzImage, version 3.0.34+ ([email protected]) #1 SMP PREEMPT...

Did you install a recovery? I've seen that happen with TWRP installed, I suppose it needs to be updated to .253

Post [Q] What do I need to know before I contribute to the porting of CM10 to RAZR i?

Download one (eg. Ubuntu) and install it on a virtual machine or computer and use it. Once you've browsed around the graphical OS enough and are familiar with basic usage (shouldn't take you long at all) use your google fu and learn basic commands, for example the ones listed here...

Post [Q] What do I need to know before I contribute to the porting of CM10 to RAZR i?

If I were you I would start by using a GNU/Linux distro if you don't already, and getting familiar with using the terminal and building software manually. Then I'd learn C. x86 assembly can come in handy too, but it's not a must. Java is mostly irrelevant, unless you want to develop features on...

I have updated the first post with a new link, the recovery should be "4.2 ready" now :) As always, thanks to @mattlgroff for letting me remote-test on his phone!

    Post dev activity

Let's continue talking on PM then re. 2, I actually did need to patch build on AOSP after all :P. CM on the other hand, has BOARD_CUSTOM_BOOTIMG_MK from the tf tablets.

    Post dev activity

I'm playing a bit with AOSP 4.2 as I got some free time. This is what I found out so far: bionic needed no patches. I seriously doubt it needs any on 4.1 (CM) either as recovery built fine. build needed no patches either on both cases. dalvik needed a 4-liner to build on AOSP (makefile fixes)...

    Post dev activity

There's at least 10 device trees on the android-x86 project. And AOSP itself has a generic one, to build the x86 emulator platform. And I made a basic one to build recovery already, with support to generate the newer x86 boot image format. Just saying ;) PS: I don't own the phone either :p
  11. T

    Post dev activity

You won't be able to build a full android system from that source. The most you can do is $ . build/envsetup.sh $ lunch generic_x86-eng $ make target Where target is something like out/target/product/generic/system/bin/bluetoothd or bluetoothd

    Thread CWM for RAZR i

Well, after figuring out the image format for boot and recovery, I built a CWM image for the RAZR i. I had to fix and hack around quite a bit of code to have it building (arm is hardcoded on several places :( ), and it's completely untested as I don't own the device, so try at your own risk :)...

Post [DEVS only] Unpacking RAZR i boot images

What did you use to repackage the ramdisk? Something like this should work $ cd ramdisk $ find . | cpio -o -H newc | gzip > ../newramdisk.cpio.gz Then use the generated 'newramdisk.cpio.gz' when calling pack; something like $ ./pack boot.img bzImage newramdisk.cpio.gz newboot.img

Thread [DEVS only] Unpacking RAZR i boot images

I've seen you haven't been able to unpack the boot images so I investigated a bit on this "weird format" Moto used. This is what I could figure out by looking at the image and the bootstub code Motorola released: 0x00000000 kernel CMDLINE, filled with zeroes where unused 0x00000400 bzImage size...

Post Kernel source (and more) up

I wondered how different was it from mainline kernel, given that it's x86; after answering my own question I uploaded the the kernel release to my GitHub, in case it's more convenient to anyone. It's basically v3.0.8 tag + the Motorola release unpacked on top...

    Post --->>>>CM7 Nightly's Build's Discussion & Thoughts<<<---

If you don't want GApps to remain on ROM upgrades wipe/format /system before flashing. Don't do it after or you won't have a ROM to boot ;) Also, "wipe data/factory reset" wipes both data and cache; wiping cache after factory resetting is pointless. And dalvik cache is inside the cache...

Post Seriously what is happening with Atrix and its ramdom reboots

Some people had random reboots caused by a faulty SIM card; it's an easy and simple thing to try and see if it solves your issue. Usually if you just walk in a store and ask, your carrier will replace your SIM card for free.

    Post CM7.2 stable issues...

The main issue here is that nobody on the team has the car dock, so debugging this kind of issues is hard on itself, even more when the logs people post are incomplete. And even if we thought of a way to fix it, testing an idea takes hours or even days, because people do this stuff on their free...

The default on the Atrix is disabled, despite of what the UI might say. Please disable it, reboot your phone and let me know if you get any more reboots. Besides, having it enabled won't give most people any benefit, considering all the RAM the Atrix has. The only possible use case where it...
