An aside relevant to building. Without creating the appropriate soft link, I get fail messages of the following kind. BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/<username>/android/lineage/lineage-18.1/kernel/lge/msm8996/scripts/sign-file line 13. Can't locate Getopt/Std.pm in @INC (you may...

At the moment, just a slightly different gps.conf. Until the spring, I didn't have Gapps, and used a different NetworkLocation. But, my wife broke her phone and wanted to use my spare H850 until she got a new phone. She uses google, and I didn't want to keep up two versions, so I made a...

I'm building a new version to see what happens. At the moment, my changes are minor: updater (local OTA server), signing keys, and gps. Best wishes, Bob

The torch is not working on my most recent build (15Sept). The torch tile on the drop down settings has "Camera in use". I'm reasonably confident that none of my changes affect the torch or camera. Best wishes, Bob

I was curious, so I looked for settings controlling an apps use of data. Satstat in this case. Here are the options one can control. - Allow network access - WIFI data (allows use of wifi) - Mobile data (allows use of mobile data) - Background data (appears to apply to mobile data only) - VPN...

If you want to use apps requiring root, you'll have to go the Magisk route. I'm no longer using root. If I need to do a rootish thing, I do it via adb, or when I build the ROM. Sorry, but I'm not sure about blocking background data. Nor do I know the best path from 14.1 to 18.1, but I've...

Post [OFFICIAL] LineageOS 18.1 for the LG G5

Postscript, of a sort. One of the main reasons that I've been upgrading, other than having the "new hotness", is that with each upgrade, I can be pretty sure of about two years of quick security updates. 14.1 is still getting security updates, but not so quick (1 or 2 months lag), and with...

Post [OFFICIAL] LineageOS 18.1 for the LG G5

I still run 14.1 on a couple of tablets: Samsung Tab S (chagalwifi) and Note 8 (n5110). The UI is more coherent and better organized on 18.1. Notifications are much richer and better controllable. Everything I want to use works pretty well (BT media and calling, wifi, encryption GPS, ....) I...

Yes, that's the fingerprint sensor pad, with corresponding spring connectors on the mainboard. I too had a spare LG G5. It would have been useful to be able to use it last week. Unfortunately, about 4 months ago my wife's phone failed, and I gave her the spare LG G5 to use until she got...

Not that I know of. I was lucky in that I was using a brand new fingerprint reader, so the pads were unmarked. I just looked at things with a watchmaking loupe (watchmaking is my hobby), and saw that one pad had remained unmarked after putting the back cover on and taking it off again. One...

Post [OFFICIAL] LineageOS 18.1 for the LG G5

I recently had problems with the fingerprint reader. However, it turned out to be a hardware problem. I originally thought that the problem was with the fingerprint reader/power button itself. So, I got a new one, and also a back cover, with one already installed in it. That didn't help, but...

My phone is encrypted, H850, Lineage 18.1. NFC works for me, but only when the phone is unlocked. Bluetooth works, but some features, e.g., connect and unpause, only work when the screen is on (or has been on really recently), but it doesn't need to be unlocked. Best wishes, Bob

Good points. I misspoke. Lineage OS doesn't have a fully automatic update. It is more of semi-automatic one. It sends a notification that one is available. Then you have to download it (button in the notification). Then after it is downloaded, you have to install it (button in the...

I've used nothing but LineageOS recovery since the beginning of December. TWRP has many more features, such as a shell and nanroid backup. Lineage recovery is (or was, last time I used TWRP) better integrated into the system. It allows automatic upgrade of an encrypted system. Best wishes, Bob

Yes, BT has the same behaviour. I'm not a developer, and don't think that I could "merge" the changes. My guess is that the BT problems are due to one of two things: power saving or security. It might be that when the phone goes into a lower power state, it no longer listens for connection...

I don't see the advantage to cycling through all these versions. Have you just tried a clean install? This would require wiping data, caches, and, perhaps, system. Then installing lineage via sideload or from external storage, adding GAPPS if you use them.. Indeed, just following the...

I just checked my phone. I'm using 18.1 self built on 30 March, with no changes to audio. The phone is H850. I've gone from lineage 14 -> 15 -> 16 -> 17 -> 18. I've never used stock on it. 1. Playing music or audio books over the speakers sounds fine (given the quality of the speakers). No...

Do you get the same error? If you do, then it as aleasto said, check your vendor/lineage. I had an automatic change to it (networklocation providers) that I should have done with sed, but just copied an edited file over, so when the original changed in another place, I was left behind. (Good...

H850, Lineage 18.1. A slight problem with bluetooth controls. If listening to something, e.g., music or audio book, and I use (some?) bluetooth headphones, after I pause it using the headphone controls, it won't resume until I "wake up" the phone. I tried turning off battery optimization...

I use it for my daily bicycler (don't drive), and have been doing so for nearly three weeks. If you use the unofficial version, you need to keep in mind that you'll have to change signing keys when you move to it, and when you move from the unofficial to official. It might be by flashing a...

In an earlier post in this thread, I said that backups are an area ripe for improvement. Well, the method of backups has been improved, and I only discovered it today. With lineage 18.0 (haven't moved to 18.1 yet), SeedVault is available as a backup provider. I don't know how I missed this...

No root natively, so you have to use Magisk, or something. I don't know about GAPPS. OpenGapps seems not to have a version for Android 11 yet. PS I've been using Lineage 18.0 for over two weeks now without any major problems. But, I don't use Gapps. Best wishes, Bob

Cheers. I'll build tonight and see what happens. As an aside, one of the niftiest new features of 18.0 (11.0) is that apps, e.g., sshelper, can now write to the public directories on the *external* micro SD. A very helpful change, and one which, by itself, makes changing to 18.0 desirable...
