Thread P8 (original) firmware updated to GRA_L09C432B520

I must admit, I'd given up looking for, and any hope of ever getting another P8 update - it was on GRA_L09C432B398. But, turned it on this morning to see it demanding a restart after having automatically downloaded and installed an OTA update to GRA_L09C432B520. Rebooted and following an...

Post Mediapad M3 - Gorilla glass or do I need a screen protector

A little story: When I bought my Huawei mobile, people smiled when I added a protective hard glass screen. Three days later, whilst reaching for something from a shelf, I knocked a pair of wire-cutters down. They fell, points down, hit the screen about 10mm in from the edge and the glass...

Thread Dell USB dongle to both charge and transfer data

This might be of interest to other Dell Venue 8 7840 owners/users. Dell has a two port dongle that allows connection of both data transfer (e.g. flash stick with standard USB connector) and a charging cable (micro-USB) at the same time. Dell product code is: 470-ABES. The cost from a UK trade...

Post Dell Venue 8 7840 - Can't root (any help appreciated)

Having (successfully) gone through the anxious moments of removing root, downgrading, then restoring 5.1 to install the Stagefright fix, I would recommend that you seriously reconsider whether or not you absolutely need root. It's highly likely that any future patches, or even a possible...

To 'toxic_garden': Many thanks for your suggestions. I finally managed to get the 'Venue 8 7840' back to Android 5.1 and then successfully installed the Stagefright patch, downloaded over-the-air. However, there were enough missing details in the various contributor's instructions to cause me...

To Sabiza: Confirmed. My RAM went from 1.7/1/8GB free down to 1.2/1.3GB. I have not yet done a full reset, but don't expect it to improve. To fpippo1999: Downgrade seems difficult, but aGerman forum talks about a possibility via fastboot - I've not yet tried. There is no 'local upgrade'...

Sounds like your battery is failing. You don't say what charge is indicated when it turns off, but if you look through the forum you'll find others have had this at 60 or even 80% of charge remaining. This charge level also seems based upon average consumption, so turn up the wick - by...

Thread Iliumsoft Dockware - memory leak

Just a heads up to others: For some time now, I've been bothered by a memory leak, so severe that a soft-reboot was necessary at least every three days - otherwise even running a new applet would cause the XDA Exec to freeze at about 5MB left. Despite removing all my major applications, nothing...

Post Where can I buy a working car charger for the Exec?

Be careful if buying one with a double USB output - I bought a few different models hoping to power both Exec and the Holux GPSlim-236, but all failed. They would power the Exec, but as soon as the Holux was connected, it would always cause the Exec to continually reboot - fortunately "soft"...

Post In car charger for universal and gps slim charger ??

Thanks for the offer, but I already have a more ideal holder - the Honda s2000 is a difficult car to find bits off-the-shelf for. The double USB cable charger proved a non-starter, different wiring for the GPSlim 236 and Universal, so I used two different chargers hardwired under the dash so...

Post o2 exec not charging when turned on with car charger

I've had very mixed results with twelve different models of aftermarket car and mains chargers for the Exec. The models that list their output at about 550mA seem to exhibit the troubles you mention - you need to switch on the Exec after the charger is working and even then with a high drain...

Previous version works on Universal, but you can't see all the screen in landscape mode. Since I use it once-in-a-blue-moon, I'm not worried by switching to portrait mode. But the loss of 5MB of main storage makes the latest version with .NET v.2 a non-starter!
