LTE+ is 5Ge. The 5Ge symbol is a marketing gimmick by AT&T in their ads and firmware and is nothing more than fast LTE.

The U1 firmware will allow wifi tethering. You are still at the mercy of any data limits from your carrier but tethering will work fine.

Unless you have modified the phone in some way, you should not need to do anything to receive OTA updates.

You can replace AT&T firmware with the unlocked firmware and native hotspot will work. However you will lose VoLTE and Visual Voicemail.
