It works. I did my Verizon branded note 8 and can tether also features such as hd voice work with no issues. Make sure to change the ums patch to 1 I think it's called as overlooking that part will give issues when flashing the firmware.

You have to reboot into recovery (twrp 2.8.7 I think) and select wipe and if doing a fresh install which is always best select system, data, cache and dalvik. Then install the rom 4.1. You can also just flash 4.1 over the 4.0 without wiping system or data.
