I think there is a legitimate disconnect between the Moto camera app and the Android Gallery. When you click the preview in the bottom left corner of the camera app it brings up all images (photos taken on the phone and any other images, it appears) in file view in reverse chronological order...

You probably have Wifi set to sleep when the screen is locked. This is a battery saving feature that I dislike. Check "Menu button > Settings > Wifi and Networks > Wifi Settings > Menu button > Advanced > Wifi Sleep Policy"
