I use ex dialer and it has the swipe call/swipe message like the samsungs one. Samsung dialer requires the samsung ui framework so it can't be installed.

Yesterday after update i had problems sending images using whatsapp, using data connection or wi-fi. I can assure that it wasn't related to update 'cause the same happened with a huawei phone original firmware without new updates.

You said that, from your first post: twrp it's a custom recovery. Did you mean that you tried to install twrp and you failed? you have to unlock bootloader (i think the procedure it's like P8 Lite) than flash it. I don't know if it's working, but you can give a try: download a full firmware...

First of all, this is general for P8 Lite not 2017; after that magisk require the boot image dump only if you don't have a custom recovery. you can flash the magisk zip from twrp.

IMO, root device it's a personal choice, the important question is: There's something that you want to do and you can't because you need root? To install custom rom you don't need root, you have to unlock bootloader, install a custom recovery (TWRP) and finally you can flash you custom rom...
