Thanks for your response. I tried the restore once more, this time wiping system, data, cache, and dalvik cache, but unfortunately it didn't seem to help. If a restore from a backup won't work, would that mean there is a chance that flashing a new rom won't fix the issue either?

Hmm ok then. I'm pretty experienced with flashing roms and recoveries and hboots and whatnot, but I don't think I've flashed a kernel on its own for a couple of years. Assuming I find a nice kernel, what are the chances of something not working afterwards?

This is really great. It's a bit hard to use your phone as a handsfree mic for games and whatnot though.

Check out Slimroms. I used them for my i9000 and I use it with my One X now.

Mainly just Titanium root, Slimcenter and Rom Toolbox

What I really get irritated with is the power button (wake button) being on the top of my One X :/ At least some roms have a 'swipe capacitive buttons to wake' feature.

Even when PS2 emulators start emerging, don't expect to be able to play anything that isn't turn based. Everything else will be way too hard.

If anything suspicious was happening to my phone I would immediately wipe/flash a new rom. Banking apps are pretty risky too if they are easily logged into.
