But that wouldn't install it as root. Push it to /system using ADB from Recovery.

In order to flash this ROM and to do that you need a custom recovery. I am not sure if you can get a custom recovery without root access. Root included means that this ROM has a SU-app integrated. In <4 you would have to flash a SU-app yourself.

I am running 6.0 as well, and the standard kernel, and it doesn't even detect them. If I change to the other wpa_supplicant I can see them, but timeout on connect.
