Same thing is happening to me as well. We are using Zimbra for my company's email system. I'm on a Sprint Note 2 on 4.3 stock and no root. Funniest thing it was working after the 4.3 update but for some reason it stopped working as of today.

The only possibility I see is if an aftermarket company makes a replacement battery for the Nexus 5 with the same dimensions but somehow able to increase the mAh capacity in the near future as battery technology improves. Even getting a 25-50% increase in capacity would be plenty.

Just tried it now, turned on Page Buddy to turn on when I plug in my headphones, and they do work, same way as my Note 2 on Sprint. One thing I notice is that the Note 1 only has earphones, docking, and roaming as the options for Page Buddy, but my Note 2 has S-Pen as a 4th option.
