Update: I took some screenshots and compared them to other Sony device with working FPS - there is clearly something fishy going on. The third screenshot is what happens when I launch Fingerprint Manager with Activity Launcher app and try to register a new fingerprint.

I'm using J9110 with latest stock EU firmware. The sensor does not work at all. Even weirder, there is no option to test the sensor in service menu and I cannot find fingerprint scanner in device options. Out of the box the sensor worked great, but gradually started failing after 1 year of use.

This issue seems to be affecting all the G8142 phones. I'm not sure if it is caused by the sensor not working itself or the service menu app not being able to access data from it because I see no degradation in camera quality.

You can download stock firmware with XperiFirm. CE1 is central Europe. Be careful when choosing the device model: G8141 is a single-sim version, G8142 - dual-sim. I don't think Flashtool currently supports XZ Premium but you can use Newflasher instead. Sent from my G8142 using XDA Labs

I think this is due to how Sony arranges pixels on their screens. If you look at the screen under a magnifying glass you'll see a wave-like patten, not a conventional square pixel layout. Sent from my G8142 using XDA Labs

I can confirm that YouTube, MX Player, VLC and VRTV Player display 4K properly. For more information see my post in another thread. And I was able to watch this YouTube video in 360° 3D mode with 2160s60 quality without any issue. Sent from my G8142 using XDA Labs

I can confirm that MX Player, VRTV Player and VLC can display 4k content properly even without overall 4K mode. I took a screenshot of each app and a stock video app playing the same 4K video and all the screenshots 4K are identical. And yes, the phone always takes screenshots in 4K resolution...

It's a proximity sensor. You can turn off adaptive brighness and it won't turn on unless you call someone. It's absolutely nothing to worry about. The sensor uses infrared light and, maybe, you're a bit better at detecting it than other people.

I will be getting mine in a few days. Definitely going to run this benchmark. I wonder if it can beat U11.

I heard somewhere that the phone app will work properly if you use 1440x2560 resolution, not sure about DPI though. I think it was Z5 Premium thread.

4G is basically the same thing as LTE in this case. 4G includes WiMax and LTE. So when you see "4G" it means you're using LTE. The same goes with 4G+ - LTE-Advanced (LTE+). I have LTE logo on my Z3 while Z5 Premium shows 4G while using the same network.

Try shooting the back of the phone with a camera. Most of the cameras can detect infrared light while humans can't. You will see it as a purple dot. It's better to use another phone for this because some stand-alone cameras use infrared filter.

Google Maps support voice navigation. I'm not sure if it is better or worse than other apps, but it is there.

I think some types of LED lights don't flicker (but be careful, some do) so you can try with them if you have. Incandescent lamps won't flicker for sure, you can try using them.

Does your PC have a USB 3.0 port? Maybe that's a problem, because the phone has USB 3.1 and all the previous Sony phones had USB 2.0. But USB should be backwards compatible, so this might not be the problem.

Did you unlock (I mean entered the pincode/password/etc) the phone before connecting it? Sony phones refuse to connect when locked. Also, does the companion ask you to put your phone in MTP mode? Normally it should display a notification with an option to use MTP (File Transfer) if you click on it.

Well, I can't say for sure but I haven't had any camera issues while using Z3 for 1.5 years, neither on Z5 Premium that my relatives uses.

They do update their camera app, for example its interface on my Z3 (released in 2014) now is the same as on XZ (2016 flagship). But I'm not sure about the performance, I didn't notice any major differences other than more convenient button layout.
