From my experience nitrogen only has some unnecessary cosmetic options aosp hasn't, but it also uses more battery. I think aosp is the better choice because it's less feature-bloated and therefore uses less battery.

I could apply Xperia style to the settings app and navbar so it works fine enough for me, but I see that there is some advanced stuff people could want that doesn't work.

You can change vibration intensity with Radon Kernel, it works just fine. I have no clue about ambient display, but that should solve at least one of those two problems.

I've seen many developer ROMs like OnePlus and Huawei seem to offer a swipe on the fingerprint to open the Notification Shade, maybe you could add that instead?

As already mentioned before it is not but fixes for other Nougat ROMs seem to work.
