What I did was change the app to stock DPI through the toggle in my quick settings from the notification bar. The stock phone DPI adjustment is what fixed the issue for me.

I've actually seen this first-hand with previous roms, and it isn't the battery bar. It's kind of like an annoying gap between the app window and the status bar. I only saw it with twitter, personally.

Like the previous post says, maybe try a custom recovery, go to mounts and storage, and mount USB storage. While you're at it, try flashing a compatible ROM through that recovery i.e. GB rom if its a GB kernel with CWM recovery or ICS rom if its an ICS recovery.

Unscrew the back and make sure that the antenna cable (white wire along the right side of the battery) isn't loose or broken. If that's not it, try flashing a modem through ODIN, and maybe even consider an upgrade since the eclair software is a bit dated. That last part is just a suggestion btw.

I've done this many a time... Just download the entire samsung drivers .exe file (still a noob so can't post links) that's around 18.5 MB in size and odin will be able to read it. Flash any ODIN-friendly kernel and rom and you should be back up and running.
