Post [Android 4.1+] HeadUnit Reloaded for Android Auto with Wifi

I was about to ask for help with a baffling issue - I've been using it for months, when all of a sudden it crashed (without error - right back to launcher) every time I tapped "WiFi" on the main screen (and often the headunit server would stop as well, but not always). On multiple devices, with...

Post How to best send youtube videos from multiple smartphones to fire tv?

If you're a Kodi user with an Android phone, I highly recommend installing the youtube addon for kodi, and installing the yatse remote for kodi app. Once you've done that you can use Share > Play on Media Server (an option enabled with a Yatse installation), and it will cast it to the Kodi...

Thread Firestick 4K enhanced with junk I had lying around the house

I decided to try to see just how far I could push this micro-sd port that is claimed to be "for power only". Turns out, pretty far. And without even using all that specific gear - just some random junk I wasn't using for anything else. I already had the following: A Unitek USB 3.0 Hub +...

    Thread Firestick 4K video tests

Not comprehensive, but did grab a bunch of samples with some key differences (264/265 8/10 bit, 1080p/2160p, 60FPS) just to see what this stick could handle. My test bed was MX Player with the all-in-one decoder pack. Smooth Playback via HW/HW+ - h.264 8bit 1080p - x.265 8bit 1080p - x.265...

Post attach usb storage to firestick 4k with OTG?

well I did my own homework - tried a chintzy 8GB stick with fat32. Didn't notice anything when I attached it - but when I pulled it I got a message saying "unexpected removal - to remove USB drive properly, go to Device > USB drive in settings" The funny thing is: there is no such place called...

Thread attach usb storage to firestick 4k with OTG?

Hi everyone! I have an OTG cable (with power passthrough) which I attached to my newly acquired fs4k. It worked for a remote w\ propietary dongle I had lying around, so I know it works in general. But the FS did not appear to recognize the 64GB SD card (formatted EXFAT) attached. I couldn't...

Post How to sideload to the new 4k fire tv stick 3rd gen?

I've found the easiest way is install apps2fire on your phone/tablet. Install the apk you want on that - then it will upload/install directly to the stick (turn on adb in dev menu on stick) - I tjhink it might require the fire tv remote app as well. it can also copy files.also, do a voice...

Post [Android 4.1+] HeadUnit Reloaded for Android Auto with Wifi

Good to know on OTG! I tried something different to deal with wifi - I was using a tasker profile to start/stop hotspot based upon bluetooth connectivity, but I think that might have killed the hotspot at random times (minor break in bluetooth connection). I use the profile manually instead...

Thread video tests for 8.4" tablet

Just received it - before ordering it, I saw some mixed messages on media playback, so I decided to conduct my own semi-scientific tests - meaning grab a bunch of samples of typical media I consume (tv/movie/anime) with some key differences (264/265 8/10 bit, 1080p/2160p) just to see what this...

Post [Android 4.1+] HeadUnit Reloaded for Android Auto with Wifi

First off: I've been really enjoying this app! So much to love about it, especially in a car where it would be highly impractical to replace the headunit - and honestly the cheap 8" tablet I bought for it is much brighter and nicer than any monstrosity I could add to my car, (which are super...

Thread S905X box (generic MX Pro +) toothpick button not working

Hi all, I am stuck on a logo, but can't even get to recovery, nor boot from SD/USB, and the toothpick button doesn't work as designed - it didn't appear to even before I started. Is there another way out of this pickle?

    Post Is Lineage worth it?

First you should confirm your model number - mine is the standard wifi-only module - SM-P900 For that model, the instructions at the top post of this post worked fine (don't use instructions on the lineage page - they're complex and people like me had problems getting them to work)...

Update - totally worth it! Buttery smooth. Odin method was actually pretty easy. Got nervous when the first boot took about 8 minutes, but it landed eventually.

Thread Lineage 14.1 just installed; now, no folders visible on PC when USB attached

SM-P900 used to see a folder for the tablet, and another for the SD card. Is this an expected limitation?

You sold me :). Of course now comes the challenge. Could not get heimdall to work; now trying Odin.

    Thread Is Lineage worth it?

My SM-P900 is a great device, in terms of screen and pen, but not at all smooth (I'm on stock 5.0.2). It feels to me more like a hardware issue - not enough RAM, nor horsepower to deal with the all the pixels being pushed. I've have been poking around this forum all morning, and I'm still left...

I have the same question - unlocked my at&t note 5 and am using cricket. I went through ODIN to get to 6.0.1, but my company requires a more recent android security patch. While it's a bummer to have to once again factory wipe my dang phone, I'm happy to give it a try. Do you have any links...

"Unfortunately bluetooth share has stopped" My latest adventure with Super-Nexus since very carefully installing it yesterday (4.4.4 on NJ4). Happens in my car, and nowhere else. I'm thinking it's the phone bits that are crashing, because the audio continues to play right up until I tap OK...

Post [Q] Best Games on Nook

+1 It's weird in that it uses the surface of your nook like the touchpad of a laptop, with a visible pointer. But, the result is that these games are actually playable. Nice find! Tried my old favorite - Day of the tentacle.

    Post External backup battery

What is the recommended way to test the time-to-charge? There are two issues that I see in capturing this data. 1) You really shouldn't run the thing dry - I mean it won't even boot with the power adapter plugged in until it has a little juice in the battery. I suppose youl could to drain it...

    Post External backup battery

I didn't notice an amp output on the energizer. NC is looking for 1900 mA for proper charging. That first gizmo is dead perfect but 100 beans is a bit outside my budget too. I have a 4400 mah battery that does 1000 mA output- i wonder if that would add a few hours to my NC? I take very long...

    Post [Q] Screen too bright?

I think the short answer is, if you're on "stock", no. If you're rooted, yes. Via multiple methods. Lots of brightness-control apps let you go lower (such as mentioned above), and I have two book readers (Aldiko and Cool Reader) which will both dim right down to off and every step between.

Post [Q] Best Games on Nook

I think the best bet for these are through emulation of GBA, NES, SNES and Megadrive. Being turn-based, the inherent difficulties with on-screen gamepads become less of an issue. To play these (in case you don't already know): 1. Own the original cartridge 2. Get rom gripper 3. Use that to...

    Post Nookcolor thoughts after CES

What I don't get is why these things cost so much! Netbooks have so much more under the hood (except for capacitive screen generally), and cost a 1/2 or a 1/3 what these are. plus they pay for MS licensing. I don't get why these things with off-the-rack parts and a free OS (I think it's free...

Post Want to try to avoid 1.3.0 OTA? Modify build prop?

That's my take as well - this "trick" does fool the operating environment into thinking it's been updated. But that doesn't mean it will fool whatever process triggers the OTA check. It might be looking elsewhere for the information that tells the process to trigger the download. And...

Post Want to try to avoid 1.3.0 OTA? Modify build prop?

It could be a boot-up process, but I doubt that because I would imagine that stock users would rarely need to shutdown. It's definitely not a sleep process, because there is no wifi on stock nook at sleepytime. Probably a small piece of some random "Hey I'm a Nook Color" daemon or what have you.
  33. M

Post Want to try to avoid 1.3.0 OTA? Modify build prop?

My guess is that a periodic process on the nook checks the status of some remote resource at B&N, and if it gets a hit, kicks off the OTA process which pulls the info from the remote site, and does its thing. My guess is based upon being in the software biz, and that's how we do it. Push...

Post Nook color: worst of all worlds?

Yeah, a lot of the reviews bemoaned its alleged "doesn't know what it is" status. I've rooted mine, OC'd it, isntalled dozens of apps and games. Yet I still use it primarily to read novels, and do some light web browsing. And for that, it's dead perfect. In other words, even an unrooted NC...

Post The Nook Color is terrible for college.

^ Agree, I vote to lock this thread at this point. 1. I'm fundamentally opposed to paying for a browser (I've bought other apps, but I mean browsers are, like, the original free app). It just seems like Android should come with an optomized, accelerated version of Chrome. Since it doesn't, I use the previous version of Dolphin HD (before...

A couple of questions about this 1. I live near a bunch of B&N's - will they apply it for you even if you didn't buy the nook itself there? 2. For those that have had this done - do they do a great job at this (thorough cleaning first, then perfect application)? 3. Is there any real benefit...

I'm not questioning your choice, I'm just curious as to what was worse about "perfect viewer" or "jjcomic" that was better when using a pdf viewer. Because personally I find viewing comics on such a small screen requires maximum speed and flexibility in terms of zooming, rotating and page...
