Apparently some Euro countries got a security update in september/october that might break the Towelroot exploit. I didn't get that OTA update in Belgium yet... so not sure it would have worked for you in fact. And for tripping Knox, don't worry, we will probably all end up doing it with future...

I just did it with my P905 (snapdragon) , latest firmware & security updates (no older image needed): it worked, no problems except for the known needed reboot when stuck on disabling Knox (Super SU). There is no risk in trying Towelroot anyway, it either works or not. It won't trigger Knox...

My brother bought one of those too during a travel. Korean Samsung IMEI as well. But then he came back to Belgium and our local GSM/3g network provider blacklisted his S3/IMEI...

*Edited* Confirmed. Rooted with CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS.tar (Had to download Superuser from market, launch it ->preferences->Try to update->Fails but root access is now enabled Oo). Thanks for this nice Rom :)

Kies does not currently install protected/signed bootloaders. Even with my Tab recently back from RMA: Samsung service re-flashed an unsigned bootloader (both sbl.bin & boot.bin).

With my bricked Tab back from RMA: both sbl.bin & boot.bin are unsigned now (they didn't flash the JJ3 firmware I put on it before bricking neither did they repartition apparently). I got some Kies upgrade compatibility back but not perfect: What is strange is when I flash an original JJ3...

They fixed the bootloader: sbl.bin & boot.bin, both are unsigned original samsung ones. They didn't reflash the kernel neither did they repartition. The best is: Kies compatibility is back :) Upgrading to official JJ7 through Kies atm.

Well, in fact I wanted to do the same and I ended up bricking my Tab but that's my fault. I have a full dump of that brand new Tab JJ3 firmware (I followed the method the US people did to make a stock firmware in another thread here). With that dump I made a first .tar including only cache.rfs...

I had access to a brand new Tab yesterday (Product code: CPW) and it was pre-loaded with PDA JJ3, Phone JID. Kies proposed an upgrade to PDA JJ7 (Phone & CSC JJ5). So yes, JJ7 is still the last official firmware in Europe. PS: Firmwares are all fine till JK5 but I would suggest not to use JM6...

Apparently, you can brick it. I succeeded ! :) :( I flashed with Odin and a custom made PDA package including boot.bin but no repartition. Odin flashed without problems but the Tab did not reboot and simply 'died'. Black screen all the time, no recovery/download mode, not seen by the PC, does...

But you can use that package to go from JK5 to JM6 then revert back to JK5 without wiping your data. That's what I just did. PS: For Kies, I tried to flash all firmwares and ask to upgrade. It said it couldn't upgrade that device or firmware for all except JJ4 where it said the firmware was up...

I had some applications disappearing (probably because I killed the Market processes at a bad time). Market Enabler didn't work but I could get all back with: Settings -> Manage Applications -> Running->Select 'Market', force stop it and clear it's cache. Next Market run, all was back. Paid...

Going from JJK1 to JJK5: If you select only "PDA", no PIT file/repartition, no Modem, no CSC and this file the update will not delete your user applications/data/... Only thing I needed to do after was to re-root it. PS: But better be safe than sorry and make a backup anyway ;)
