Post [Beta] Win86emu: Running x86 apps on WinRT devices

Sketchup looks too CPU intensive to be suitable for x86 on ARM emulation, and since it's not open-source the option of an ARM port isn't a possibility either. Your best bet if you absolutely need to run Sketchup on a tablet would be to get an x86 tablet instead, Surface Pro would handle it fine...

Post Surface RT Accessory Compatibility Thread: Post Your Results

I'm using this Samsung 1TB 2.5" USB Hard Drive, it works perfectly on Surface RT, using just the one USB port.

Post Editing a gif file in notepad

.gif files are images, so even if the image is of text, the text can't be edited as plain text in the same way a .txt file could. You'll need an image editor capable of opening .gif files, Microsoft Paint actually does a pretty good job if it's a non-animated .gif, simply open the file, remove...

Post Desktop apps ported to Windows RT

I don't think Windows RT will run .NET 4.0 apps (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But .NET 4.5 apps will run on Windows RT providing they are built to target 'AnyCPU'.

Post [Q] How to run full Web Pages On Surface

Very strange that bet365 is treating IE10 as a mobile device, but maybe it's redirecting to mobile based on the ARM CPU. There is a fix. Open the page in desktop IE10, open F12 Developer Tools, then from the 'Tools' menu select 'Change user agent string' and 'Internet Explorer 9'.

    Post [Release] RT Jailbreak Tool

Strange. The jailbreak is still working fine for me, even after today's updates. Edit: My mistake. More updates showed after restarting from the first batch, and now it doesn't work :(

Post what's happened to my marketplace?

Same happened to me, then a couple of hours ago it fixed itself. I'm not sure what caused it but it was the same on my Surface RT and Windows 8 desktop, so I guess it was a Store issue that Microsoft have now fixed.

Post New to Windows 8 OS (Tablet) Need a few inputs

This thread should probably be in general rather than development, but to answer some of your questions.... Windows 8 is compatible with almost all software designed for Windows 7. How usable that software will be with a touch screen depends on the software. All Windows 8 tablets allow for a...

Post [ROM] RainbowMod 2.2 for Lumia 800 [Updated 04.08.2013]

This ROM is amazing! Everything seems to be working, and battery life is great. The only addition I'd like to see is English (UK) as a selectable language. Otherwise, perfect!

    Post [APP] CalcSnap

You may be able to access the Windows Store in an unsupported region by signing up for a new Microsoft Account in a supported region (such as USA), then creating a new user account on your PC and signing in with your new Microsoft Account. If it works you'd only be able to download free apps...

    Post [APP] CalcSnap

Thanks :) It seems a shame that only a desktop calculator app is included with Windows 8 / RT, so I'm really glad my calculator app has been well received. I have lots more features planned for the next update including memory functions, and being able to copy the running total or full equation...

Post Surface firmware update is now available!

I found a way to fix this: Open Control Panel on the desktop, go to System, and Device Manager. In Device Manger, find Firmware, and double-click Surface RT System Aggregator Firmware Go to Driver, and Roll Back Driver. When this is done, restart Windows, then run Windows Update again.

CalcSnap is an elegant and easy to use calculator for Windows 8 and Windows RT. CalcSnap in...

Post thoughts on the future of texting

The more integrated that 3rd party messaging apps become with mobile OSs the less likely it is that phone users will choose to use more expensive options like SMS, MMS, or even standard voice calls.

    Post Experiences with your phone(s)

My first phone was a Nokia 5110, then I had a few Orange/O2 branded smartphones, all actually HTCs (SPV, C500, C600, E650, XDA Exec), then switched to iPhone for a bit (3G, 3GS, 4), then switched to Windows Phone 7 with a HTC Mozart, then a Nokia Lumia 800, and now finally on Windows Phone 8...
