Just did this due to my z3c being much dimmer than my friends z1c flash. These were the default settings: Z3c 2,500 Z1c 62,500 So it would seem the z3c might have had a mistyped figure in the first place from the factory. Both are very bright now with the above suggested setting

No the Z3c software isn't optimised at all, or very badly. This is common with many other brands using Sony cameras and getting better results, I just found it ridiculous the cheap India phone did better. No worries I take my Nokia 808 when I want good photos now.

It is my actual experience that the camera "lens" melts with heat - it is plastic, no feelings involved.

That's because the "glass" is in fact plastic.
