is your bootloader unlocked? if it is this is the command you should be typing.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
just replace the recovery.img portion with the file name of your twrp file.
i flashed stock recovery, uninstalled xposed framework, put the stock boot animation back, and un-froze any apps that i had to use titanium to freeze. and then flashed the update. basically back to stock without doing a reset.
Updated mine this morning. It stayed on "patching system files" for a while and I got worried that I bricked but it finally finished the update and now im running 4.4.4 rooted with xposed perfectly. im also unlocked.
According to the guys over on the moto x board the guy is having trouble accessing the database so he's been delayed and has also offered people refunds until he can access it again

i have tried manually flashing the stock 4.4 recovery to my wifes x and it fails every single time. i used rockmymoto to root it originally so i have the fake recovery on there now. the error that fastboot shows when i try to flash the 4.4 recovery is failed to hab check recovery 0x56 or...
i dont think the update.zip would work if you are already on kitkat. you can use the sbf file i posted with a program called house of moto to flash and not have to wipe data.
the bootloader is fine and still locked as they all come that way from moto even the dev editions. you have to request an unlock code in order to unlock the dev edition.
any 4.2.2 sbf files will fail as the first thing kitkat updates is the bootloader and recovery. they blocked downgrading. you will have to wait for the kitkat sbf.
on the fxz files you have to delete this line from the .xml file <step operation="getvar" var="max-download-size" /> or it wont work. also if you half flashed kitkat it wont go back to the 12.15.15 build anyway. you will have to wait until the kitkat sbf is released
your stuck until someone figures out how to root 4.4

this is what they told me to do. you will need the sbf to do this. i dont think they want me to share it. but it should be out tomorrow.
If you are stuck with HAB 56 or other fastboot error , you need to reflash your device with the original factory software

just got a copy of the sbf from moto. its legit my phone is rebooting right now. i had to use moto's fastboot because the regular fastboot wouldnt flash the system.img. if you are still bricked hang in there the sbf works!
