You cannot flash images that aren't signed by Samsung with a stock recovery. You should flash a tarball that contains cwm with Odin; I think someone had posted the .tar some posts ago.

Have you tried ticking the lock instantly option? Settings -> Lock Screen -> Screen Security -> Automatically Lock then select Immediately

Probably because of fstrim, right? How long have you been without freezes? My phone is okay for a day or two and then the freezes show up again (though I've never flahed anything beyond 4.2.2)

I flashed a stock 4.1.2 to my phone, so now the status is set to official, but my counter is set to 1. Will I be able to install OTA updates? My warranty has expired, so I have no need to reset the counter if I can update. Any help is appreciated.

Nightlies are built automatically on a daily basis with whatever feature(s) or fixes the cm maintainers add, regardless of whether things break or not.

It's obvious you don't know how big is the Samsung crap devs have to put up with. They have people get in their nerves as well, you know. That may be their attitude, but their contributions make up for that by a long shot.

Is the brickbug fix present in the recovery as well? I read somewhere that recoveries also have a kernel of their own and haven't found whether cwm5 includes the fix or not. (Just to make sure if I can safely wipe data from the cwm that comes with SpeedMod) Thanks.

I checked both the tar and the zip: only difference is that the zip has 2 files called update-binary and updater-script, but I'm fairly sure that doesn't have anything to do with recovery, so I guess the tar does come with cwm as well. Thanks for your help.

What is the worst case scenario when flashing a non-compatible kernel? I know it's been said that if they're similar it may work but I was curious as I wouldn't mind a bootloop over downright hard bricking my phone... In my case, I have a UBLSG rom, so I take it the closest compatible kernel...

Don't flash cm9 because i9300 ICS roms suffer from the Sudden Death Syndrome. Always go for the latest nightly.

Then it's probably because your device status is Modified, since you flashed a custom recovery and/or you're rooted.

It means your flash counter is > 0. It's normal.

Samsung also said we would get 4.2.2 by June so yeah. I don't mind at this point though, since their releases take like 3 or 4 more months after the source is released. If released, CM will be a much better bet by then.

Just look at the charger's output current: if it matches the "Now" current, then your phone is charging just fine. Stock charger for S3 is 1000mA, and through a PC's USB is 500mA IIRC.

If it were up to Samsung, they'd only roll out updates for their current flagships (S4 and future Note 3) but I suspect there must be something else going on for them to have a 4.2.2 build for the S3 rather than for the Note 2 (the latter being the latest Note flagship)

I've read many posts regarding backing up the efs folder, and they either say use any root explorer to directly copy it, or use EFS Pro app. Are both of these methods valid? (I'd use EFS Pro but I don't have BusyBox installed.) Thanks.

I believe the wasted power is related to the coil's material (the less resistive, the less dissipated power). So yes, efficiency could never be 100% because there's no material with 0 resistivity.

The only way these will be solved was if Samsung released the source code for their Exynos chipsets.

I need to keep stock, no CWM or non-stock kernels, which is why I'm asking if JB kernels are safe.

Exynos is Samsung's, Snapdragon is Qualcomm's.

The Stock S4 carries a Snapdragon SoC, not an Exynos one.

Does the phone get abnormally hot? I'm just guessing here, but since the device can measure the temperature, maybe it has some circuitry that reduces the drawn current gradually to prevent the phone from further temperature increase.

You need a credit card to purchase from the Play Store, no other way around unless someone sends you money to your Wallet account. You can install purchased apps on other devices if you login to the Gmail account that holds the purchases.

Guess that's up to the service Samsung provides where you live: if you can send in the phone and get it back in within say a week~ in case they reject it, then it might be worth a shot.

Maybe the sd card became defective? Try testing with another card to rule out the possibility of the phone being the problem.
