Post How can I update my unlocked AT&T S9 (SM-G960U)?

It seems as though AT&T can only send updates over their network, which I don't have access to because I'm outside the US. If I change my firmware to U1, would I then receive updates OTA in the future directly from Samsung?

Post How can I update my unlocked AT&T S9 (SM-G960U)?

So do you mean that the different carrier versions of U1 firmware don't have carrier apps, but have files that make the phone more compatible with the carrier's network?

Post How can I update my unlocked AT&T S9 (SM-G960U)?

When I check out the U1 firmwares, I see different variants listed (ATT, TMB, etc.). As you said, the U1 firmware is unbranded, so why are there carrier-specific variants?

Thanks for the link. I checked it out but I couldn't find what each segment represents. I'm new to flashing and CSCs and stuff like that.

Thread Three CSC codes separated by slashes in Software Information

Hi everyone. When I view the info under Service Provider SW ver., I see a line that has three CSC codes separated by slashes. It says ATT/XAA/ATT. What does each code represent? If it matters, I have an unlocked AT&T S9 and my current carrier is outside the USA. Thanks!

Thread How can I update my unlocked AT&T S9 (SM-G960U)?

Hi. I have an AT&T-branded unlocked S9 (SM-G960U) and I have not been receiving software updates. The date of the installed security patch is Nov. 1, 2018, and I'm still on Android 8.0. When I check for updates, it says that my phone is up-to-date. My current carrier is outside the USA. I have...

Thread Facebook app suddenly built-in after recent update

Hey guys. I recently updated my phone, and to my surprise, Facebook was installed. I remember uninstalling it before applying the update. When I go into settings and check the version, it says "version stub". What does that mean? Also, "Uninstall" is no longer an option. Now, I can only...

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

I've done that in the past. All that occurred was a blinking red light. After leaving it to charge overnight, it still didn't turn on. However, today, I tried it again and it came on. It would only boot to the bootloader menu tho, and not the Google screen. I decided to put it in the freezer...

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

Alright. Thanks. Btw, something strange happened just a while ago. I left my phone off for a while, and turned it back on. Surprisingly, the booting animation came up, and then the Welcome screen. I was so happy but I was kinda busy at the time. By the time I got a chance to set up the phone...

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

Alright, but since all my data won't be recovered, is there a way to get access to files on my phone before I factory reset it?
  22. O

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

Nope...I was waiting to see if I could find a way to recover my data first :(
  23. O

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

Oh...I see. So what about the factory reset option in the recovery menu? Would you expect that to fix it too?
  24. O

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

Wait...what?? So if I choose to factory reset my phone now without unlocking the bootloader, it might become completely useless? Is rooting necessary?
  25. O

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

    nope...what's a bootloader anyway?
  26. O

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

haha it's ok :) you tried to. Rooted or not, do you think factory resetting it will fix the problem as long as I can get to the bootloader menu?

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

So are you saying that I should factory reset my phone from the recovery menu, or do I have to use the method that requires the factory image? My phone wasn't rooted btw, so I can't re-root it.

    Post Stuck on "Google" screen

What's that? Is it the screen that comes up when you hold down Power+VolumeDown and gives you the option to select Start, Power Off, Restart Bootloader, or Recovery?

    Thread Stuck on "Google" screen

I was using my phone like I usually do, and then it suddenly froze. So I held down the power button, forcing it to restart. Ever since, the screen only shows "Google" for a while, then becomes blank; no booting animation. It would restart itself occasionally. I tried booting into recovery mode...

Thread Replacement USB Type-C to Type-C Cable

The USB cable that came with my 5X was damaged and now I'm looking for a replacement cable that is very similar to the original. I've heard of a problem with USB Type-C to Type-A cables, where the phone pulls too much current and damages the device it's connected to. Do C-to-C cables have this...

Thread Sending files via Bluetooth without pairing

I was asked to bluetooth something to someone. Our devices weren't paired. I selected the file that I wanted to share, tapped share, chose Bluetooth, and selected the person's device. I was surprised when the file was successfully sent. How was this possible?

Post Is there a built-in download manager?

Nope...I tried that. All that happened was that the notification became dark blue, the notification's title became "chrome", and two icons (an "i" and a settings wheel) appeared in the notification.

Thread Is there a built-in download manager?

I accidentally downloaded a file and couldn't find a way to stop it. When I open "Downloads", it just shows me files in my Downloads folder. Is there any way to cancel files that are being downloaded? Thanks.
