I heard that when Samsung replace motherboard, they use IMEI etc. from damaged board and flashes it on a "blank" MB. Other just replace motherboard which has new IMEI :D

I think that your friend has got a lower quality replacement display. If you want to replace your screen, you should look not for the cheapest one or atleast do some research (check that display you will buy is original) :p

Look like it's firmware for Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand and Philipines too :D It may be official, not "weird" version.

I also had the same problem but it was when I went to recovery (TWRP) with app like Quick Boot or something. Backup done on TWRP or stock firmware flashed with Odin worked for me because everytime it was rebooting straight to recovery.
