    Post Aaaaaannnnnnnndddddd.............Data outage, 3/13/12

Actually, VZW's outages are pretty unique and likely caused by unique issues from combining 3GPP and 3GPP2 networks. To the best of my knowledge, most all other pure 3GPP LTE roll outs are completely outage free. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA

    Post NFC Copy key tag

If cards are that simple to clone, doesn't that kind of defeat their purpose? I would have thought there'd be some sort of copy protection that would at least make the cloning difficult.

    Post AT&T Throttled me @ 2GB

It's an interesting idea. What are the data rates when you're throttled? Maybe everyone who gets throttled should simply turn on streaming music 24/7 in protest. Also, for those who were throttled, are you still in contract?

Post Open letter to Google and all Android OEM´s

This has more or less been my experience too. Plus, you get the options the dev chose. Some you like and some you don't. You probably won't. The reason being that the majority of people don't even know those options could exist. What most people really want (need even) is simplicity. Put a...

Post Mail service (exchange) draining battery?

I am connected to two different Exchange accounts, one 2007 server and one 2010 server. Both set to automatic push. Battery life has been excellent with this phone and getting better. Yesterday, with several phone calls, emails, etc. I clocked in at 1 day 7 hours before I hit the 14% warning...

Post I think my Nexus is broken :(

Interesting... Seen this twice now... Totally stock, not even rooted. Was typing a text message. Froze up and then screen slowly started to morph into this funky image. Battery pulled, rebooted and all is good again. I've barely ever touched the music player so far.

Post And this is why I hate the Nexus camera

I've noticed the GN is more susceptible to a bad white balance than some other phone cameras. I am often pulling images into Photoshop to simply re-white balance them.

Post Need peoples help to prove GPS HW or SW issue?

Sounds like a warm start. A cold start is likely to take longer. So a brand new GN with data turned off might take longer to get it's first GPS fix.

Post And this is why I hate the Nexus camera

At 1/3000th, your gain (ISO) is going to be jacked up even in broad daylight. This is like going 40MPH in 1st gear. You might be able to do it but it's not much fun. I see tons of gain noise in that image. The sky is crawling with it. Fortunately, that would appear to be a software problem.

Post LTE vs HSPA+ Pros and Cons ?

Good paper. Thanks for linking to that. The lack of knowledge is shocking. Agreed. However, I am not fully convinced on how similar LTE and HSPA+ are. They do have a lot in common obviously but really they're only close when HSPA+ is truly and fully evolved to an all IP core. And even then...

Post LTE vs HSPA+ Pros and Cons ?

You mean besides the last 4 major outages which is pretty unprecedented for VZW. They have a very serious flaw in the IMS core that keeps rearing its ugly head and no one knows how to fix it yet. Heads are rolling at Nokia Siemens. You can expect some more funky teething issues with VZW LTE.

    Post Sprint, ATT and Verizon

Sprint WiMax runs at 2.5GHz which is really really crappy spectrum. There's plenty of capacity per MHz but it attenuates really quickly and has terrible in-building penetration. Verizon's 700MHz LTE spectrum attenuates much more slowly and penetrates walls much better. To cover the same area...

    Post US users on AT&T

I assume you mean this one: You should always have the latest SIM which is the LTE SIM regardless of plan or device. If you are on an LTE plan and using the LTE APN, you should be able to get HSPA+ speeds on your GN. And you also benefit from routing through the LTE EPC core which is more...

Post GPS only locks on with A-GPS

Yes, this is a GPS warm start using cached almanac and ephemeris. And because you typically start your car in the same spot where you shut it off, your GPS usually has a pretty easy time figuring out where you are pretty quickly during that warm start. Agree that cold start GPS is at least a...

    Post US users on AT&T

I understood your post. You're basically saying LTE and HSPA are the same generation of technology which is misleading at best. HSPA is an evolution from UMTS. LTE is entirely new. It is not faster just because of lower saturation. It is faster because it is an order of magnitude more efficient...

How many times does this horse have to be beaten? Just because the ITU f***ed up the definition of 4G doesn't mean we can all run around pretending that everything is 4G. Post GPS only locks on with A-GPS

A-GPS won't work without a data connection but you can turn A-GPS off and simply use unassisted GPS. It will take longer to get the first fix but otherwise you shouldn't notice any difference. As for CoPilot, I am not familiar with it but if it can work in offline mode on your HTC phone, it...

Post Odd 4G LTE/3G Behavior after upgrading to leaked 4.0.3 radios

You should be able to maintain LTE data and use voice at the same time, VoLTE or no VoLTE. In the non-VoLTE environment, the GN uses both CDMA and LTE radios concurrently and one doesn't impact the other. Only when using CDMA data will your data session be cut by a call.
  23. ianwood

Post GPS only locks on with A-GPS

This is misleading. Really all you need to take advantage of A-GPS is a data connection to download almanac/ephemeris and get timing data. This will dramatically help with time to first fix. WiFi and cell triangulation are less accurate supplements for when GPS is not available e.g. indoors.

Post Tethering On the Go Borked

This is not true. LTE is designed specifically to work for high-speed travel without degrading throughput. And tower handoffs do not lower your service priority. Agree that if the OP is trying to watch movies while driving, he'll be in an accident in no time. REALLY really bad idea.
  25. ianwood

Post People are raving about 4.0.3 but where is it?

Actually, it is because CDMA/LTE requires you to be on both networks at the same time to use LTE and receive voice calls/text. There is no handover signaling between CDMA and LTE. GSM/LTE has a built-in signaling mechanism that allows voice calls/texts to initiate a handover to 3G. This means...

Post Possible to get Galaxy Nexus to work on Sprint?

The VZW SIM contains the authentication for BOTH the LTE network AND the CDMA network. LTE uses the uSIM profile and CDMA uses the cSIM profile. There is nothing on the phone that identifies the user. Nothing. MEID (like IMEI) is an EQUIPMENT identifier. If you want to run a GN on Sprint, it's...

    Post Cdma data and phone

You won't lose it. Voice is treated like just another data type in LTE which means VoLTE inherently supports concurrent voice/data. It's about having radios on at the same time. LTE/UMTS/GSM does not run 2 radios simultaneously and supports seamless in-session handovers including the signaling...

    Post Cdma data and phone

Verizon 4G devices still have to use 3G for voice at least until VoLTE is switched on next year. Having two radios always on is part of the reason why the Verizon version has such horrible battery life.

Post [Q] These HD sAMOLED screens kinda suck

I have to say I am disappointed in the banding that shows up under certain conditions. Grey backgrounds in low light have 3 or 4 chunky vertical highlights. Post GN users on AT&T...here's how I got a 4G HSPA+ plan

This is not true. AT&T's data service used to be one size fits all but it isn't anymore. LTE eNodeB's can support HSPA(+) and backhaul it. And the LTE APN routes through a separate EPC core. You're not guaranteed better results but changing plans and APNs can make a difference.

OK. First, you should relax a bit. It's not that a big of a deal. It's a first gen ICS device so you shouldn't be too surprised by teething pains. Post Moving from T-mo to ATT, ATT Gnexus users pls offer suggestions?

It has to do with how the receive (RX) and transmission (TX) audio are handled. You can either have both RX and TX on 100% of the time or they can be multiplexed into one channel to save bandwidth. It's a misnomer because half-duplex usually means something like this: If you're there that...

    Post GN users on AT&T...here's how I got a 4G HSPA+ plan

A lot of LTE's low latency comes from eUTRAN which only LTE devices can use. However, the "different servers" which is the SAE EPC could play a part too and can be used by HSPA devices with the PTA APN. I'd be curious to see some test results. Same SIM. One set with an LTE device using PTA and...

    Post GN users on AT&T...here's how I got a 4G HSPA+ plan

Post [Q] The Verizon Nexus and VoLTE?

It's a really good question. If I had to bet, I'd say yes. I'd bet they've got Samsung putting the codec into the modem firmware already. I'd bet their 4G device testing already includes VoLTE IMS along with one or two production test markets for VZW field testing. I think the odds are good...

Post Battery life on lte version is horrible

Post AT&T APN switching to PTA on Galaxy Nexus

If you have an LTE SOC, you can use the LTE APN but the device doesn't support LTE. You might as well get the HSPA+ SOC and use the HSPA+ APN. Using the latest AT&T LTE compatible SIM will not cause a problem. It is backward compatible with all AT&T plans. As for an incorrect SOC, well that's...
