How do I know if a ROM that includes the kernal, OR a seperate kernal has root? BEFORE flashing it?

Currently running "Android 4.3.1" this is a SlimRom Kernal is "3.0.101+ Semaphore", on my Samsung Captivate. Semaphore CWM Recovery v6.0.3.8 and phone is rooted. Should I be able to just upgrade to ie: SlimCaptivate 4.4.4 or LiquidSmooth right over what I have? Any opinions appreciated.

Hi.. Updated my cappy from Froyo 2.2 to UCKK4, now on Liquidsmooth v2.9 JB-4.2.2 Camera worked initially, video mode did not. Next day clicking the camera icon resulted in an error saying "unfortunately gallery has quit/shut down". Clearing data & cache in gallery helped to be able to take and...

Clearing the cache and data in gallery lets me use the camera to take pics now BUT if I try to shoot video it closes again immediately.. Need to sleep so will have a go at it again tomorrow.. Thanks very much !!

PS... Will a bad Gallery have any affect on the camera?

Yes, sd/factory cache dalvik Camera worked at first, and could see my pics...actually I can still use gallery to view them but as soon as I press the camera icon, either in gallery, or the app icon the error says "unfortunately gallery has stopped" Video never worked from the start
