do you have a custom recovery installed on your phone? if yes, then you boot to recovery using the adb command or using the hardware button. when the phone boots into recovery, you will be able to see your phone in my computer from where you can access all your data.

I would suggest not to take too much risk with rooting without the access to PC. If by chance, something goes wrong, like bootloop or something, you'll be screwed big time.

after flashing new OOS update , should always boot into TWRP first than boot into OS. flash TWRP recovery again ver 3.0.4-1.

There was a vulnerability in the OS 4.0.3 and below, which enabled users to use those commands to reset dm-verity. This has been fixed in the latest update of OOS 4.1.0. Hence you're not able to use those commands.

Download the latest apk of google app and google play services and set your device primary language to English (US). Google assistant will get activated after 6-7 hrs. Tried it myself on OOS 4.0.3 and then on 4.1.0 . It's working as advertised.

i tried dirty flashing ver 2.5 over 2.4 and i get this error file_getprop: failed to stat "/tmp/aroma/aromaroot.prop". No such file pr directory. Tried the clean install by wiping everything and get to boot loop. I waited for 10 mins on the boot screen and then had to revert back to 2.4. Any help?

try wiping the cache and dalvik in twrp and reboot.

install stock recovery and then try installing official OS. Or install modded twrp 3.0.2-1.28 and then try installing Freedom OS 2.3 via sideload or through internal storage.

Oxygen OS 4.0.2 also has the app locking features built-in. it's present in the security option in settings menu. As for the camera app. it's really very fast and takes excellent provided you know how to take it. Additionally install nova launcher and make it look like any OS of your choice.
