    Post Overall love

I love the form factor of the device too - but mine bootlooped 15 months after buying from Project Fi. As I'm in the United Kingdom at the moment, it took an extra few days to get it replaced, but Google Fi delivered the necessary! :) However, I wasn't going to be without a device for a week, so...

    Post Screen on time

Only a few days after my last post in this thread... ...my US-bought Nexus 5X went into the bootloop of death. I'm currently talking to Google Fi to see if they can do something with it. :/

CallMeMic, that's pretty much what I get. I simply pick up the device and use it, rather than worry too much about battery life...

    Post Screen on time

I usually see around two hours, connected to HSPA rather than LTE or Wi-Fi, with everything left running. Brightness is set in the lower third, with adaptive brightness enabled. I'm as disappointed with this as I was expecting, but not unhappy with it!

    Post Cellular strength and throughput

I'm using the Nexus 5X with Three in the UK. Compared with the original Moto X, the HTC One M8, it's decent - it doesn't cling on to a signal as aggressively as the Moto X but it's much quicker jumping up from HSPA to LTE. Better than the One M8...

Yeah I'd be cool with that. And the waiting too as the device is doing what I need it to do...:highfive:

    Post No android L?

The key messages here is, "...Of course, just because branches have been published for these devices, it is not absolute confirmation that this entire list of devices will receive an official L release. Nothing is certain until Google releases OTAs and/or factory images..." I've just bought a...

Post Post your Batterylife with a Screenshot !!

I deviate between using a power manager and doing it myself. I see advantages in both. The better power managers are usually inside a few percent of doing it myself, but the difference isn't significant in terms of days of use. I'll squeeze a couple of days from my device with minimal use...

Maybe a little off topic but have you changed how you host the file? I can't seem to download it, it pulls in a ~88 KB file. :(

Post The great battery impression thread

LOL I suppose, but statistically it could be significant. In the context of 21 mAh, it isn't. Although I'm sure I've seen 0% for a few minutes before the device shut down.

That's where I am, too. Tweaking the processor may save a little battery but it's polishing compared with the modem and screen. But so far in early testing, Mirage's kernel has produced decent results. I will experiment with the governor used for my usage to see if maintaining middling...

That's interesting about Google+; I guess it's the upload? You can tell it to only upload over WiFi and only when plugged in, which is what I tend to do unless I'm feeling like being mean to my data and battery! ;)

Post The great battery impression thread

I'm seeing something similar, but I've never worried about closing old applications. Google updated Keep and Calendar in the last couple of days and I'm sure I saw improved battery life detailed for both... ...this said, I'm pretty certain every update claims improved battery life! :)

Post The great battery impression thread

So far I'm happy with the battery life on 4.4, but it's early days yet. Feels like an incremental improvement over 4.3, but 4.3 would wakelock out on me with little provocation. I'll see what 4.4 is like but so far, so good.

Post The great battery impression thread

I'm seeing a useful reduction in standby power consumption. I'm completely stock with no concession to battery life other than I keep the screen dim where I can and I don't use Google Currents on the Nexus 4. In use, there's little difference but when idle (running all radios) it's kinder to the...

Post Bluetooth won't turn on, no matter what! 4.2.2

I've had the issue on my Nexus 4 since getting the update to 4.2.2. I'm completely stock and until now, I've never seen that when I toggle WiFi, a day or so later, Bluetooth stops working properly. I've been keeping Bluetooth on all of the time (there's no difference to battery life that I can...

Post [Q] Google Play Music Update May 15 Crashes

Yes they did. I've checked that it works on my Nexus 4 (as I can uninstall updates) and although it took a long time to let me in the first time, it's working. So that's good. ;) Thank you.

Post [Q] Google Play Music Update May 15 Crashes

That would be silly but make sense. ;) Luckily, I can roll back updates on some devices. It's not the end of the world because I can still access my music but if I only had one of these and if I wasn't able to, I'd be more than a little upset about it!

Post [Q] Google Play Music Update May 15 Crashes

I, too, have the same problem on all of my devices running the latest version, which range from a Dell Streak on 2.2 through a Note 2, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and HTC One S. I think it doesn't like that I'm in the UK, as it doesn't seem to be device specific.

Post The great battery impression thread

There are lots of ways to look at battery life. Most days, I arrive home with about a third of battery remaining and under two hours of screen on time. I'm not too bothered by this because I still make it through the day. When I'm not working and I'm connected to home WiFi, I can easily see four...

Post The great battery impression thread

WiFi should use less power when using it to download. It (should) download the file quicker so the radio spends more time at idle. When connected but otherwise idle, I suspect the practical difference is indeterminate, especially if you disable 3G. One may be more efficient than the other, but...

Thread [Q] Play Music, stock ROM

I'm going to be picking up a Dell Streak in the next few days, running stock 2.2 (2.2.2 from memory; running stock O2 UK ROM). I've a HTC running 2.2 that doesn't work with Play Music, does the Streak work with Play Music or not? Google's support website suggests checking with the...

Post The great battery impression thread

Ultimately, though, battery life is still a personal thing. Okay, so we can all produce statistics that show X number of hours, but it's only relevant to that one person. It's partially relevant to everybody else if their usage is similar, but it's vague... Just like fuel consumption / gas...

Post The great battery impression thread

Surely, if it's good enough depends on the user..? We can't judge what's good enough for somebody else without knowing more about it. Depending on my mood, no current or planned smartphone has good enough battery power. I want something that gives me a couple of months of as much use as I want...

Post The great battery impression thread

For my take on the Nexus 4 running 4.2.2, I find that I can easily get through a day of my use. I'm often in WiFi, I have a 90 mile commute, but I'm usually a lightweight user in 3G unless I'm listening to music. My screen on times are not so good, but I don't mind, because it gets me through a...

I did keep a detailed log of screen on time, 3G data and WiFi data for the first fortnight because I'm geeky like that. But even though we could all do the same thing, we're on different carriers, using different frequencies, with different accounts in different locations. I likened it to a...

Post The great battery impression thread

In my experience, yes it will. Absolutely. I believe there are three factors at work here as well. One is that as we get used to a device, we tinker with it less and use it more. So that means a little less screen on time, which helps. Two is that the battery becomes conditioned, so it holds...

Post The great battery impression thread

Yeah, navigation is quite hard on the device. The GPS chip uses a lot of juice, plus you're using the screen on and the data network, too. Not to mention some processor power. As for the heat, I'd not consider that to be a dangerous temperature. I'd expect it to sit at or slightly above that...
