likewise, fastboot boot twrp.img results in being stuck on the fastboot mode logo. tried multiple versions of twrp and updated my drivers.

How long is first boot? The first thing I did when I got my pixel 2 xl a couple weeks back was to put nitro on. Just tried to run the stock March update and it's taking forever to boot. Just sits on the Google splash screen. Tried deuces script too. Same thing. I've never had to wait this long...
