What is "WM8"?

Sounds like something is causing the phone to want to switch the encoding to Unicode. What are your regional settings? Also, do you have the Nokia-specific Network+ setting? What is the SMS charset set to?

Got my unlock code for my 8x, from T-Mobile USA. They sent the request for the unlock code for my 810 to Nokia. Guess HTC is a bit more on top of this than Nokia. Then again, HTC devices have always been pretty readily unlockable. Thanks T-Mo, love ya!

The Rogers variant has the "highest connection speed" setting. You can just set it to 3G and then you effectively have a non-LTE phone. The setting is in Settings -> Cellular.

No length issues on WP8. The T-Mobile USA MMSC is much longer than the one being discussed here, and it can be entered just fine.

That is correct. All of those are *display languages* and not just the keyboard (there's a separate but similarly huge set of supported keyboards).

My Rogers variant has the "max speed" option to shut off LTE. The AT&T one doesn't seem to have that... so this is an AT&T issue, not a Nokia one. And if AT&T is doing this on Windows Phone, I'd assume they are customizing their Android phones similarly, no? (I have no experience with Android.)

Tethering works for me on T-Mobile USA, on my Rogers 920.

Go into cellular settings and make sure your highest connection speed is set to LTE and not 3G. Also make sure you have your APN set correctly. Without the right APN you won't get any evidence of LTE on the device. Once you set it correctly LTE should magically start working.

AT&T device (a) can't be unlocked, so you can't use it with anything other than an AT&T SIM and (b) won't have European LTE frequencies.

Windows Phone 8 includes MMS setup now, so there's no need for a Nokia-supplied network setup app and there's little worry about getting MMS working.

But the 800 was not offered by any USA carrier. So the MS store presumably could work directly with Nokia to offer it without having to worry about the carriers. That's almost certainly not so with the phones that carriers do offer.

Rogers variant: model RM820 with pentaband UMTS and North American LTE. For 3G/4G, band support includes: AWS (T-Mobile USA), 850 & 1900MHz (AT&T), and 900 & 2100MHz (rest-of-world). AT&T variant: also model RM820 but for UMTS probably has AWS (and also 900MHz) disabled, so no T-Mobile 3G/4G...

The RM820 (North American model) also has support for LTE 1900 (doesn't help anyone in Europe though).

I doubt any RM821 has AWS support. Its the RM820 that's pentaband.
