Post [GUIDE] Unlock/Root/Flash for Nexus 5X

I'm running stock, but rooted. I was trying to follow option 2 on post #1212 (download OTA update and adb sideload while in TWRP).

Yeah, that's all it says. Weird. I will try the driver thing on the next update since I already used the image file for the latest. If it's still a problem, I'll post screenshots. If not, I'll at least let people know it was the driver in the end. Thanks!

Not sure why, but when I tried to do the "adb sideload otaXXX.zip" from my PC, it looks like it starts but then says "error: closed" after a couple seconds. In TWRP, I do the advanced, adb sideload. My phone is recognized when I do adb devices (on PC) while in the advanced, adb sideload screen...

    Post Droid Mini/Maxx/Ultra Root / XPosed / BusyBox [SU6-7] Android 4.4.4

Do you have a image in mind to flash that provides what you want after you do this root or do you plan on removing all this yourself? I only ask this question because people have rooted and then found out it's not the root they thought it was. If you want to make any permanent changes to the...

You definitely can't go wrong with the Turbo. Great battery life like the Droid Maxx, not too much bigger, and bootloader unlock and root. It's my personal favorite right now. I checked out Swappa today to see what they are going for and they are a reasonable $240ish right now. I've been...

    Post Droid Mini/Maxx/Ultra Root / XPosed / BusyBox [SU6-7] Android 4.4.4

This process is involved. Something worth asking is what are you wanting to do once you root? I ask this because modifying system files won't be straightforward either as the system partition is still read only (and won't keep after reboot). If you want to make changes to system permanent you...

Only the Developer Edition phones can you unlock the bootloader. Regarding the custom ROMs, I believe you are out of luck unless someone created an image you could flash. I haven't really checked this part out though so I'm not sure what options are out there.

Last time I checked, the Drivers and Scripts link on the OP on page 1 still worked. Start with those. This should get you everything except the image needing you to go from SU6-7.2 or SU6-7.3 down to SU-6.7. For that file, try: http://motofirmware.center/files/category/17-droid-ultra/ and...

    Post Droid Mini/Maxx/Ultra Root / XPosed / BusyBox [SU6-7] Android 4.4.4

Well, some would argue that we do have root by definition, just not what we've come to expect. It is what it is and we just have to accept it, try to crack it ourselves, or move on. Speaking of moving on, if you are like me and chose this phone because of the battery life, but you would still...

    Post Droid Mini/Maxx/Ultra Root / XPosed / BusyBox [SU6-7] Android 4.4.4

Yes, you should be able to update and still maintain root. The only thing that doesn't seem to work is Xposed if you update past SU6-7. Therefore, if you use or plan to use Xposed, I would not update to SU6-7.3. ---------- Post added at 09:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:33 PM...

I can confirm also. I can't remember the actual version numbers, but I was up to firstEncounter's Note 9/5/2015 with extras (ie, Xposed among others) and running SU3TL-39. For grins, I installed and tried Sunshine and it failed because it detected Xposed (which is what was supposed to happen...

Yes, this still works. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on Lollipop. At this point, I wouldn't expect an unlocked bootloader either. This is likely our best option.

Oh, I see what you're saying now. Yeah, I wouldn't know the answer to that question as I haven't had this need. However, I'm curious because I too would think we would be able to have that temp access. Can you provide an example so I can try it out?

    Post Droid Mini/Maxx/Ultra Root / XPosed / BusyBox [SU6-7] Android 4.4.4

Yes, as you found out its okay to update and keep root. From what I've read though, Xposed doesn't work right unless you are on 6-7. I use Xposed and haven't updated from 6-7 so I can't claim that to be a true statement or not. It's only what I read. If you never use Xposed, you're fine. If...

I believe SU6-7.2 is the latest anyway. Therefore, if you decide to try it and, for whatever reason, you want to revert back, you should just be able to go through the whole break the bootloader, flash the rooted SU6-7 version procedure again. Good luck!

Earlier in this thread, there were questions about going to SU6-7.2 (from SU6-7 which is the rooted image). Assuming update 24.13.2 also pushes you to SU6-7.2, then yes, you can take the update and still be rooted. However, as someone mentioned (can't remember the name off hand), if you do...

My understanding is that you can make all those changes, but it's just more painful because you have to extract the system image, make your changes, flash your changed image (shortened for simplicity). I did this when I made changes to allow for Adaway (created a symlink) and tether...

Well, if you are willing to keep trying, I would try this. 1. Did the md5 hash on your zipped image file match (technically, this isn't the problem you state you have, but you never know)? Likewise, did your mofo download match (I can't remember if that had an md5 hash or not)? 2. You...

Double check the filename. I noticed you put 247 when the file is 274 after Computerfreek. There might be more but this one definitely stood out to me. Actually, you should just be able to start typing Com and then press the tab key and it should auto populate.

This is not going to be helpful...but I experience the same problem you mention. It's not all the time, but does happen fairly often. My workaround has been to tap the "tab button" - the number with a square around it like you were going to swipe the tab away, but just "select" that tab again...
