I believe the only way is to use the brick.sh method in the first post of this thread, but if you're on build 9820, you can't right now until the brick.sh is updated to work with that build. I'm in the same boat as you...waiting.

So I just factory reset my phone, and when it initially restarted, messenger was showing a circle with my initial by my messages. Then an update from the play store for messenger installed, and now that circle is gone.

Not that I know of. My bootloader is unlocked, but I have not flashed a custom recovery or rooted. I'm just running stock, with BL unlocked. Not sure what app or apps would cause this issue.
