***UPDATE*** Pulled the battery and booted into stock recovery....wiped data/factory reset/wipe cache...reboot...I was able to nav further into the UI than I was previously able to like into the SMS app and system settings then BAM...auto-reboot again and the famous "Android is upgrading..."...

Also...once the screen went black earlier the phone would reboot even after wiping it clean of absolutely everything...something somewhere got seriosuly borked...

Just did Odin to Stock...successful...BUT the phone booted up and I have the "Android is upgrading...<starting apps.>" box...its been sitting there for at good 15min+...:confused:

So far the re-sized (smaller) Live tile images have remained in good shape many many hours after the quality of the bigger images would start degrading. For all who care, I consider this work-around good enough for me :P
