I think this is related to how Google Play Services is on the phone, I created a lite Google package for the Nubia Z17 and people had similar complaints about contacts sync not working... it was fixed by flashing the stock opengapps but we can't do that without TWRP here.

Install the same way you would install opengapps (install TWRP, root with TWRP, boot into phone, reboot into recovery, install the opengapps package above) It's just micro with Chrome and Webview, the stock gapps from opengapps works without any modification!

Best app I've found for this is Edge Gestures, but it's a paid app. You'll need to also turn the bottom bar on, once it's set up you can set qemu.hw.keys to 1 to remove the bottom bar. (You'll need root for that though)

It's actually illegal to change the IMEI, so we can't really help you with this. AFAIK though, there is currently no way to change the IMEI on the Mi3 without some expensive hardware.

I know that, but I used to have the best of both worlds on my Nexus 4. If I enable them they are always there, on my N4 they were hidden until I pulled up from the bottom so they were only there when I needed them.

I wouldn't usually suggest it at first... but I haven't seen an issue like this before. Try to do a factory reset from settings, take a nandroid backup first to restore later. Let me know if you still see it after the restore.
