Woohoo! I went with Broken OS and I absolutely love it! Only issue so far is the wallpaper occasionally resetting. A minor issue which I'm sure I'll figure out sooner or later. More than I can say for Windows 10 lol. Thanks so much!

It's asking you to use your FB or Gmail account as your account for the site. I just gave them the Gmail I use for spam sites and it started right away.

SOLVED... unfortunately. Make sure to check your IMEI folks. ....service mode folks. Take your time.

Try this link. That's from the Samsung site for the I717 driver only. See if your computer picks up your phone after installing that. If that doesn't work you may just want to use ODIN. I'll tell you everything you'd need to know to do that just don't have time ATM.

Did you install Samsung KIES first? It should automatically install the driver you need. Also when you put it in to download mode do it while the phone is unplugged, then plug the phone in. Let us know what happens, sure we'll figure it out.
