Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Amplify no longer available in the Play Store Hi everyone, OP here. It's been a long time since I've checked in, but I want to share some news. I received an email from Google yesterday letting me know that Amplify has been suspended from the Play Store because it changes the way that other...

Thank you for the confidence that this will work. I'll be calling Verizon Monday.

Post Move from AT&T to Verizon. Will VVM just start working?

It wouldn't be prepaid. I want to move from att contract to Verizon contract and want to know if vvm in the dialer app will automatically be enabled when I switch carriers.

Thread Move from AT&T to Verizon. Will VVM just start working?

I'm frustrated by AT&T's stance on VVM and RCS. They don't allow the standard dialers VVM integration to work and they apparently have no intention of supporting RCS. Can I take my pixel 3 xl from att and provision it on Verizon? Will everything "just work"? Will VVM come back magically...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Hi everyone, Apologies for my absence. I had a work trip and then yesterday had to undergo surgery. Nothing major and everything went well. I'm recovering today and tomorrow. The pain meds make it hard to focus so I haven't read past page 779 here. Just posting this to explain why I'm not...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Good question; I wasn't clear: Amplify requires Xposed, which requires you to have a rooted device. The Amplify app also *used to* require root and would request it when it started up. It doesn't need to request root anymore and so it won't show up in your SU app list. To avoid confusion, I'll...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Hi all, It sounds like there are a couple of things going on. 1) It sounds like there's a problem with LG phones. This happens sometimes when OEMs have customized the OS and changed signatures on methods. I can fix it, so we'll get that sorted. 2) Amplify doesn't need root anymore! It won't...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

That's a great logcat. Unfortunately, I don't see anything wrong. I'l need to create a version with more logging to see what's going on. I'm not going to be able to get to that for a couple of days though - I have some business travel early this week. Perhaps try to uninstall, reboot...

Post [Update 06/11/17] [UNOFFICIAL] List of modules which work with Nougat Xposed

shrazy Hi folks, Amplify has been updated for Nougat. The new version is in the Amplify thread OP, on the play store, and on the Xposed repo. Enjoy your new battery life! Ryan

I get so excited every time I release a x.0.0 release because I love round numbers. I'm always hopeful that it stays at x.0.0 for a long time. It never works out :) Here's a new version that fixes the problem. Thanks for catching it early! Ryan

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Thanks for confirming everyone! I'm glad we got it sorted out! Thanks for letting me know. Can you grab a logcat for me? Best way to do that is install adb on your computer. Verify it's working by trying the following from a command prompt: adb logcat. If you get a bunch of output, that...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

I think support for SELinux and Nougat calls for a major version change! Amplify version 4.0.0 attached! This version should have full SELinux support for wakelocks, services, and alarms. Consider this the first official version for Nougat. I'll continue to optimize and fix bugs in...

fenrir_ac - Thank you for the logcat and detailed report. I plan to switch from files to a database. I think that may fix your problem. It might take me a couple of days to get that done; I want to get the alarms and services working first as it looks like the current build is working for most...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Hi everyone, Attached is another release that should fix stability problems. The caveats with this release: - It only handles wakelocks. Alarms and services will be easy after we get the wakelocks working - I've completely re-written the preferences and statistics, which are two core parts of...

Post [TOOL] DexPatcher: Modify Android applications at source-level in Android Studio

Hi, I have a couple of basic questions and hoping the answers are pretty straight forward so I can decide whether to go deeper. I'm the author of a modestly successful Xposed module called Amplify. I'd like to move away from Xposed as a requirement and it sounds like DexPatcher might be the...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Late night, but I made some progress. It looks like I fixed the instability. It turned out to be a deadlock between threads in different processes that were trying to grab wakelocks at the same time, both of which would try to start the ContentProvider. Simple fix and now I'm batching the...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

It's a great question. You're right that it means that preferences, which include which items to block, aren't available until boot. For wakelocks and alarms, it's a very small issue: Amplify won't block anything during bootup, but will start working as soon as the system comes up. That's...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

rovo89 is aware of the problem and there are a bunch of github issues on the XposedBridge project. There aren't any perfect solutions yet, but ContentProvider is one way folks are handling it and i think it's the path I want to go down. I suspect that the ContentProvider is also causing the...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Not going to happen tonight, ya'll. I just realized that SELinux also breaks the ability to get preferences from the Activity into the system process. The old XSharedPreferences classes don't work anymore. I have a solution (again using ContentProvider), but Android really doesn't like when I...

That's helpful guys - Thank you! I see the crash from rav101 's post. That one should be pretty easy to track down and fix. The two minute thing is odd and I don't see anything obvious in the logcat. I'll take a look, though. I'm hoping that some of the instability is just because I haven't...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Hi folks, Attached is an alpha version of Amplify that fixes the problems with SELinux. It would be awesome if a few of you could test it to make sure it's working. Before you do, though, here are some things you should know: 1) It's only tracking wakelocks right now. If this method works...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Hey all, Just wanted to give you a quick update before I turn in for the night. I have the new communication structure in place and Amplify now records wakelocks, alarms, and services without requiring any special setup (SElinux or System app). There are still a few kinks to work out: - UI...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Another quick update: I put together a proof of concept this morning that successfully communicates wakelock stats across process boundaries. I'm using a ContentProvider to do the communication. I've proven that the method can work, so I can say confidently that I can get this fixed. Now...

Hi folks, Quick update: I pulled an old device out of a drawer and installed 7.1.2. on it. I'm able to reproduce the problem. The issue is writing the stats files across process boundaries - SELinux doesn't let the system process that Xposed runs inside of write to a file that the GUI process...

This. Wakelocks happen frequently but only run for a few seconds (usually). Services typically start and stay running for a really long time. It's rare that a services starts and stops with enough frequency to benefit from blocking it occasionally. I had considered a feature where Amplify...

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

Davey126 nailed it. The goal isn't to limit everything under the sun. You just want to limit the wakelocks that 1) Wake up the phone constantly and 2) Have receivers that keep the phone awake for a long time. Perfect example is google's NLP wifi monitor. It wakes up the phone every minute...

Post Everything has gone crazy after the new Google Play Services update.

Just piling on. romracer nailed it. The new version of Gapps doesn't check if it actually acquired a wakelock before they release it. This causes an NEP, crashing gapps. Bad programming on their part. For now, avoid using Amplify to limit the icing wakelock. thanks, Ryan

I would add that other apps like Doze and Greenify completely block the wakelocks. Amplify allows them to continue, but only as often as you would like. This lets you keep the functionality of the wakelock, but stop it from killing your battery.

Hmm. I don't see anything obviously wrong. I'll need to load it up on my dev device tomorrow and see what's going on. If it crashes, can you get a logcat? That would help. It sounds like it's not crashing anymore, though.

Post [Mod][Xposed] Amplify - Battery Extender - Control alarms, services, and wakelocks

It blocks only if the wakelock/alarm happens more frequently than your setting. If the wakelock setting is once every 240 seconds, but the wakelock natually only occurs every 300 seconds, it won't ever be blocked. If it naturally occurs every minute, you would see 3 blocks for every allowed...
