Just got the 10.1.0.255 this morning via OTA without the Chinese SIM in the US. 636 variant.

Your best bet is to purchase a Chinese SIM off amazon (13 to 18$) and turn on the phone with it in place of your carrier sim. Then check for an update with your WiFi on... Its how I got mine to 10.1.0.248. ---------- Post added at 03:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:57 PM ----------...

Yes, all of us on here discussing the SIM trick are on the EVR-L29 636 variant. I was suggesting that it might be worth giving it a try on other variants since the out of pocket expense to try is very minimal

Using the trick we are all up to the August security patch you were asking about for your variant of the phone

Not sure about your version, but the SIM trick we have been discussing here definitely works on the EVR-L29 version. You might want to give it a try.

As previously mentioned by another user, the card doesn't even need to be activated. Just turn off phone. Put in sim. Turn phone back on and make sure WiFi is switched on. Check for update. Smile!

This is the card I bought off amazon. Works perfect for bypassing what seems to be a dead zone of updates in the US due to their mistreatment of Huawei and several other supposed tech threats.

Received the sim today and within the span of an hour I have had three updates to the latest available patch. Still waiting on 252 but not complaining

I Would also like to know which one he/they purchased. I took a shot in the dark and ordered one that says it uses China Unicom. Waiting on delivery. Will update if it works or not.

How? How did you get a Chinese sim to work in US? What brand did you use? Had it previously been activated inside China?
