On which Rom please? Does it also work in shops?

Gpay working? Given the updates to Safetynet features and bootloader checks, has anyone got GPAY working with this, and if so, which rom? Thanks in advance for any help, as GPAY is a deal breaker for me and I'm suffering on Miui.

If you have access to fastboot then you haven't killed it. You need to use MiFlash and try different official fastboot ROMS until you get the same as it came with (same rom not neccessarily same version number). Make sure you flash using "clean all and flash" and DON'T select lock. Eventuallly...

I disagree. Once you have the bootloader unlocked officially, if anything goes wrong just reflash an official fastboot rom from Xiaomi using MiFlash and your phone is as good as new. No worries.

When you reboot reboot straight to recovery using POWER & VOL + It should stay after that as long as your reboot to recovery before you reboot to system. Let me know if that helps at all.

Once you have flashed TWRP, reboot straight into recovery rather than back into the system, otherwise the system overwrites with stock recovery. Once you've done it once it should stick. Hope that works for you.

What's the camera quality like... I've heard good things about it. Is it rooted?

Magisk has a few modules for it but nothing like Xposed. I'm going to do a full back up and then see how well ZenUI plays with Substratum as most of the ZenUI Themes are pretty poor and I want an all black theme. I'll let people know how it goes if anyone is interested in using substratum...

Not that alarming, I've just swapped to pin code until it's rectified, for the sake of better battery. All other security policies allow the screen to properly to turn off.

There's not root on the Elite 1 as yet... I would assume that I need root to do this? If not it would be great to find out as I can get a custom recovery and then merely flash the appropriate superuser zip. What do you think?

I can see a custom recovery coming soon as there's an interesting feature in the Developers Options menu called "OEM Unlocking" which is described as Unlocking the bootloader. Excellent!

If you're particularly nervous about it note down your baseband from the settings -->about phone menu and that way you can reflash the same modem after you've flashed a new rom. Chances are that it won't be touched by the rom though.

Ah I get it now, in which case I would be tempted to go to an Indian 4.1.2 firmware through ODIN and the update through OTA if that's possible. That would reduce the chase of stuffing up your EFS by using an official Samsung update procedure.

Yeah what you propose seems very straightforward BUT it would be advisable to do a full backup INCLUDING EFS, just check the EFS box in TWRP for instance, as it's not usually included in a backup by default.

I had a similar thing when I was changing between 4.3 and 4.4.2 in which my recovery struggled to mount storage after the system was flashed. In the end I had to flash an old version of Philz CWM, or alternatively flash TWRP and mess about with the settings as where it looked for files...

The simplest place to start is a root checker app (just stick root checker into play store). If it says that you don't have root then you don't simple as that. In which case use CF-AutoRoot program on your pc which will flash both a Custom Recovery (clockworkmod) as well as root... after that...

The option to hide root in surperSU is still not complete enough for some apps such as the Barclays Banking app. In this case it may be worth trying to use the exposed module designed for hiding root. Plus you can pre-set it on an app by app basis.
