i rslly dont know what you were doing wrong, it works for me just fine, i even completely reset my tablet then install cm the gapps and fire ice then booted it and went through setup, right after setup it gave me the option to use either launcher3(AOSP) or google now launcher

neither of the issues you just described happen for me, do keep in mind that the CM download page has problems in android broswers(or on android devices) so please either use the CM updater app(which even verifys md5 sums(i think)) or download them through PC and eitther sideload or transfer...

Its what im here for :D If your installing it from the market(which idk why you would cm has SU built in) then you will need to flash it The built in root app can be activated in the development menu though if you choose that instead
