So how do people access recovery when having a bootloop?

I must be stupid but I can't access recovery if not using NDR utils. I turn off the phone, press volume down, and power on, and it doesn't do anything. I have also tried to press vol down when the green led is on and nothing... any ideas? what am I missing?

Hello, after following all the steps I get to nº six. During the readback I connect the phone and it starts working perfectly fine, but after a while it sounds like the mobile phone has been disconnected and it gives an error. I tried it twice and both times this happens at 45%... Any ideas?
