Thanks for all the replies. I ended up pushing a full zip of 8th nightly through fast boot and doing a factory reset which got the phone working again. I'll probably continue to use cyandelta but making sure I have a good nandroid first!

just flashed May 8th nightly using Cyandelta and it's rebooted and optimised the apps twice, waiting to see if it does it a third time. I wiped dalvik and cache with TWRP too. And of course I don't have a backup, I know what I'm doing... sigh :) Will update if it comes good on the third...

Newsblur is force closing on me, and BBC iPlayer won't play downloaded videos. The latter is also incredibly slow, which might account for the problem.

I might be imagining it but I think I'm getting fewer bad dismounts with 50020d. Is there any mileage to suggesting it's a problem with Wifi? I had a load when I connected to London Underground's public WiFi.

Ah, I didn't use an OTA, had to use "upgrade recovery" with LG tools. May or may not re-root.

I've just upgraded to 50020d firmware (stock). I've lost root and probably therefore TWRP, but I'll take that in place of having a working SD card slot. I'll let you all know how it goes over the weekend!
